Lead compliance, safety, and design coordination across complex projects. A well‑established architectural practice is looking to appoint a Principal Designer (Building Regulations & CDM) to join their team. This is a key role within the practice, supporting the delivery of compliant, safe, and well‑coordinated design information across all project stages.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in architecture, building control, project management, or health and safety who enjoys working across design teams and influencing project outcomes from inception to completion.

Requirements

  • Experience in architecture, building control, project management, or construction health & safety
  • Strong knowledge of Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act 2022
  • Understanding of HRBs and Gateway processes
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams
  • Strong attention to detail and compliance‑focused mindset
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to influence design outcomes and manage risk

Desirable

  • Professional membership (RIBA, CIAT, RICS, CIOB, CABE or similar)
  • Experience in Principal Designer or CDM advisory roles
  • Familiarity with BIM workflows and digital coordination tools
  • Site inspection or construction stage experience

The Role

As Principal Designer, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance and coordination across all project stages.

Key responsibilities

  • Acting as Principal Designer under CDM and Building Regulations
  • Coordinating design risk and compliance information
  • Reviewing design packages for regulatory compliance
  • Supporting Gateway submissions and approvals process
  • Maintaining compliance trackers and project documentation
  • Attending design team and client meetings
  • Advising on Building Safety Act requirements
  • Supporting project teams across multiple sectors and stages
  • Carrying out site visits where required
  • Contributing to quality assurance and continuous improvement
