Overview
I am working on behalf of a main contractor to recruit a Sub Agent (Infrastructure) for a major new 6.5 km strategic link road in Suffolk. The scheme involves significant earthworks, new junctions/roundabouts at each end, extensive drainage and SuDS installation, and complex interfaces with environmental and archaeological constraints. We are seeking Sub Agents with either a strong Roadworks background and/or Structures experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Site Agent and Project Manager to deliver the programme for a 6.5 km link road, ensuring milestones, budget and quality are met.
- Day-to-day management of an assigned section of works: supervise site teams and supply chain, manage plant and materials, and control programme delivery.
- Produce and maintain site programmes, site diaries and all statutory records; prepare weekly and monthly progress reports.
- Drive compliance with Health, Safety, Environment and Quality requirements: ensure RAMS, Permit to Work systems, site inductions and toolbox talks are implemented and recorded.
- Oversee temporary works, traffic management and site access arrangements, including coordination of haul roads and vehicle routing.
- Manage drainage and flood-risk mitigation measures as part of permanent and temporary works (implementation of SuDS features such as swales and infiltration basins where required).
- Maintain the QA file and ensure completion of inspections, audits and non-conformance resolution.
- Deliver environmental commitments on site: implement mitigation measures from the Landscape & Ecology Management Plan, supervise reinstatement and habitat protection, and work with ecological specialists and statutory consultees.
- Support archaeological watching briefs and works in areas where heritage mitigation is required, ensuring contractors follow prescribed archaeological procedures.
- Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with the client, local authorities, highways teams and local communities; proactively manage enquiries and local impacts.
- Report programme, cost and performance to the Project Manager and escalate issues early.
Qualifications
- Background in highways / civil engineering delivery — either focused on Roadworks (earthworks, surfacing, drainage, TM) or Structures (culverts, retaining structures, bridge/overbridge elements).
- Relevant qualification: Degree/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent experience.
- Proven site management experience delivering medium/large highways or infrastructure projects.
- Competent understanding of SuDS, flood risk mitigation and relevant technical/consent drivers.
- Experience working with environmental constraints (protected habitats, SSSI buffers) and archaeological requirements is highly desirable.
- SMSTS (or equivalent), CSCS (Managerial card), NEBOSH or IOSH desirable.
- Strong IT skills (programme trackers, reporting, document control).
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to be site-based in Suffolk.
Benefits
- Subsistence towards accommodation and food when working on site.
- Competitive salary and package (reflecting role and experience).
- Generous holiday entitlement with options to purchase additional days.
- Corporate discounts and Cycle to Work scheme.
- Comprehensive pension plan and family leave policy.
- Regular Save As You Earn / share purchase scheme and employee assistance programme.
- Private medical scheme options for salaried employees and employer paid professional body membership relevant to the role.
