We are a well-established main contractor delivering a diverse range of construction projects across the North East. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, we are looking to appoint an experienced Freelance Quantity Surveyor to support our commercial team on a range of live projects.

The Role

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the commercial management of projects from procurement through to final account, ensuring financial performance is maximised while maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and the wider project team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing project costs from pre-construction through to completion.
  • Procurement and management of subcontractor packages.
  • Preparing, reviewing and agreeing valuations, variations and final accounts.
  • Cost reporting, forecasting and cash flow management.
  • Preparing and submitting client applications and payment notices.
  • Managing subcontractor payments and commercial negotiations.
  • Identifying commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Working closely with site and project management teams to ensure commercial objectives are achieved.
  • Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor working for a UK main contractor.
  • Strong knowledge of JCT contracts (NEC experience would also be advantageous).
  • Experience managing multiple projects across commercial, industrial, education, healthcare or public sector schemes.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently while integrating effectively within an existing team.
  • Full UK driving licence.
