Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a General Foreman to join a leading Tier One civil engineering contractor delivering a major city centre infrastructure and regeneration project in Sheffield.

The General Foreman will oversee the safe and efficient delivery of highways, public realm and drainage works, helping to improve transport links, pedestrian routes and public spaces while ensuring works are completed safely, on programme and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise day-to-day site operations across highways, public realm and civil engineering works.
  • Promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety, environmental and quality compliance.
  • Coordinate labour, plant, materials and subcontractors to achieve programme milestones.
  • Ensure temporary and permanent works are delivered in accordance with approved designs and specifications.
  • Review and implement Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), COSHH assessments and Permit to Work systems.
  • Monitor quality throughout construction, ensuring works are completed in accordance with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and a right-first-time approach.
  • Maintain accurate site records, site diaries and daily progress reports.
  • Work closely with Site Agents, Engineers and Project Managers to drive programme performance.
  • Identify and resolve site issues whilst maintaining productivity, safety and quality standards.
  • Ensure all works comply with company procedures, client requirements and industry regulations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous experience working as a General Foreman on highways, public realm, infrastructure or heavy civil engineering projects.
  • Experience delivering projects involving highways improvements, drainage, earthworks, paving, reinforced concrete or urban infrastructure works.
  • Proven ability to lead site teams and manage subcontractors within live construction environments.
  • Strong understanding of Temporary Works, RAMS, ITPs, quality assurance and health & safety legislation.
  • SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid qualifications are desirable.
  • Excellent communication, planning and leadership skills with the ability to drive programme and quality performance.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
