An exciting opportunity to lead a nationally significant, multi-year gas infrastructure upgrade focused on reducing emissions and supporting the UK’s transition to a lower-carbon energy network. This four-year Design & Build project involves the installation of a new, low-emission gas turbine–driven compressor train at a critical Above Ground Installation (AGI) site within the national gas transmission system. The first two years will focus on design, offering a hybrid working arrangement. The final two years transition to site-based delivery, overseeing construction and commissioning. This is a strategically important project aligned with the Medium Combustion Plant Directive (MCPD), playing a key role in futureproofing UK energy supply and improving air quality.
Responsibilities:
- Lead full project lifecycle delivery from early-stage design through to construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Manage design partner deliverables, ensuring alignment with project programme and technical specifications.
- Oversee governance documentation including risk registers, programme schedules, commercial reporting, and approvals.
- Maintain strong stakeholder engagement across engineering, commercial, client and regulatory interfaces.
- Select, appoint, and manage subcontractors to ensure safe, compliant and high-quality delivery of civil, mechanical, electrical and EC&I scopes.
- Monitor project financials, ensuring cost control, forecasting accuracy, and achievement of target margins.
- Promote and enforce high standards of health, safety, environmental and quality performance across all project phases.
- Provide regular reporting to senior leadership and ensure proactive management of project risks and opportunities.
- Travel to design offices and project sites across the UK as required.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience delivering major projects in the gas transmission or AGI sector, ideally with compressor station involvement.
- Knowledge of AGI systems, gas turbines, pipeline interfaces, and process safety standards.
- Proven track record managing infrastructure upgrades in live, regulated gas environments.
- Experience working under CDM 2015 regulations, acting in Principal Contractor and Designer capacities.
- Competent in commercial management of D&B contracts – cost/value reporting, change control and programme forecasting.
- Confident communicator with excellent stakeholder management and technical reporting capabilities.
- Full, clean UK driving licence with flexibility to travel when required.
