A well-established civil engineering contractor delivering high-quality roads, highways, infrastructure and public realm projects across the region. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, we are seeking an experienced Senior Area Supervisor to join our operations team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated construction professional with extensive highways and civil engineering experience to lead multiple project teams, drive operational excellence, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Reporting to the Contracts Manager, you will oversee multiple roads and highways projects across your designated area, providing leadership to Site Supervisors, Foremen and operational teams while maintaining strong relationships with clients, local authorities and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate multiple roads and highways projects simultaneously.
  • Lead, mentor and support Site Supervisors and operational teams.
  • Ensure all works are delivered safely in accordance with company procedures and health & safety legislation.
  • Monitor project progress, productivity, quality and programme performance.
  • Coordinate labour, plant, subcontractors and materials to maximise efficiency.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits and quality checks.
  • Identify and resolve operational issues to minimise delays and maintain project delivery.
  • Liaise with Contracts Managers, Project Managers, clients, local authorities and utility companies.
  • Ensure compliance with National Highways and local authority specifications where applicable.
  • Review RAMS, permits and traffic management arrangements.
  • Produce accurate site reports, progress updates and performance information.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and continuous improvement across all projects.

About You:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Significant supervisory experience within highways, road construction or civil engineering.
  • Experience managing multiple live sites and operational teams.
  • Strong knowledge of highways construction methods, specifications and industry best practice.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and decision making.
  • The ability to build strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Good commercial awareness and understanding of project delivery.
  • A full UK driving licence.

  • SSSTS or SMSTS
  • NRSWA Supervisor
  • CSCS Supervisor/Manager Card
  • Temporary Works Awareness
  • First Aid at Work
  • NH Passport (desirable)
  • Experience working under NEC contracts
