We are seeking a Design Manager to work closely with the Framework Director, coordinating and supporting design partners in the development of FEED, Optioneering Studies, Conceptual and Detailed Designs across long-term UK gas frameworks. You will ensure designs are fully coordinated, compliant with regulations, and approved in line with programme requirements to enable timely project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee external design teams, managing capability, capacity, performance, and outputs.
- Manage the full design process, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and alignment with project objectives, budgets, and timelines.
- Chair design management meetings, ensuring adherence to standards, regulations, and client specifications.
- Develop and manage engineering budgets, schedules, and change control processes.
- Collaborate with external design houses, consultants, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver coordinated strategies.
- Review designs at all stages, ensuring buildability, integration of delivery team inputs, and timely approvals.
- Identify and resolve design issues, manage RFIs/TQs during construction, and share lessons learned across projects.
Requirements
Essential
- Strong civil and mechanical background with thorough knowledge of the onshore UK gas sector.
- Proven experience managing design processes, budgets, programmes, compliance, and assurance.
- Ability to review drawings, identify buildability issues, and manage technical risks.
- Knowledge of construction methodology, sequencing, and pre-construction design activities.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
- Proactive, organised, and able to prioritise and motivate teams.
- Problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience working with National Gas, Cadent, or other Gas Networks.
- Project and process management experience.
- Familiarity with risk assessment and design delivery assurance.
