About the Role
Our client are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Contracts & Commercial Manager to lead and oversee all commercial and contractual aspects of their design and construction activities. This is a role with responsibility for establishing robust commercial governance, managing contractual risk, supporting project delivery teams, and ensuring projects are delivered on sound commercial terms while protecting and improving profitability. Working closely with senior leadership, project teams, and company directors, you will play a key role in shaping and implementing group-wide commercial processes, frameworks, and reporting structures.
Key Responsibilities
- Contract Management
- Review, negotiate, and administer client and subcontractor contracts, including NEC4 and bespoke contract forms
- Lead reviews of contract amendments, including Z-Clause assessments
- Draft and manage collateral warranties, subcontract agreements, and supply chain contracts
- Provide commercial support throughout project lifecycles from tender through to completion
- Commercial Management
- Manage contract variations, compensation events, claims preparation, and dispute resolution activities
- Work alongside project teams to manage valuations, cash flow, forecasting, and change control processes
- Review commercial performance, project margins, and financial reporting
- Risk, Governance & Process Improvement
- Develop and implement group-wide commercial procedures, reporting frameworks, templates, and governance processes
- Standardise commercial reporting processes including CVR reporting, subcontract reviews, and risk registers
- Establish clear commercial workflows, approval processes, and governance structures
- Leadership & Collaboration
- Partner closely with design, engineering, and delivery teams to improve commercial awareness across projects
- Deliver training and guidance on commercial best practice and contract administration
- Support senior leadership and directors during key client negotiations and framework discussions
About You
You will be an experienced commercial professional with strong contract management expertise and the ability to operate across multiple projects, stakeholders, and business units. You will ideally have:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within commercial management, contracts management, quantity surveying, or similar roles within construction, engineering, infrastructure, utilities, or energy sectors
- Strong knowledge of NEC3 / NEC4 contracts including ECC, PSC, and contract amendments such as Z Clauses
- Proven experience managing change control, claims, compensation events, and dispute resolution
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities
- Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Law, or similar
- MRICS or equivalent chartership desirable but not essential
