We are seeking an experienced and motivated General Foreman to join one of our growing civil engineering and groundworks contractors. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong site leader to oversee the successful delivery of multiple groundworks packages while managing a workforce of approximately 40 groundworkers across a range of commercial and infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, supervise, and coordinate a team of approximately 40 groundworkers and subcontractors.
  • Plan and manage daily site activities to achieve programme milestones.
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with company policies and statutory regulations.
  • Conduct daily briefings, toolbox talks, and site inductions.
  • Allocate labour, plant, and materials effectively to maximise productivity.
  • Monitor workmanship and maintain high quality standards throughout the project.
  • Liaise closely with Site Managers, Project Managers, Engineers, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Identify and resolve site issues before they impact programme or budget.
  • Ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Maintain accurate site records, including labour returns, plant usage, and daily progress reports.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and maintain high standards of housekeeping across all work areas.
Essential Requirements
  • Proven experience as a General Foreman within civil engineering and groundworks.
  • Demonstrable experience managing large site teams of 30–40 operatives or more.
  • Strong knowledge of groundworks including: Foundations, Drainage, Roads and sewers, Earthworks, Concrete works, External works.
  • Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Preferred Qualifications
  • SSSTS or SMSTS.
  • CSCS Gold or Black Card.
  • First Aid at Work.
  • Temporary Works Awareness.
  • CPCS or NPORS (desirable).
