An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operations Manager to join a leading infrastructure delivery business supporting the maintenance, upgrade, and long-term resilience of one of the UK’s most strategically important gas transmission assets. The Operations Manager will lead the delivery of a complex portfolio of asset integrity, corrosion prevention, cathodic protection, pipeline infrastructure, and critical asset refurbishment projects within a live gas terminal environment. Working within a highly regulated Upper-Tier COMAH setting, the Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with stringent operational, environmental, and commercial requirements, whilst supporting a long-term investment programme focused on maintaining the reliability and resilience of the UK's gas transmission network throughout the RIIO-T3 period.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the successful delivery of multiple live and planned asset integrity and gas transmission projects across the terminal and associated infrastructure.
- Manage long-term programmes of work focused on pipeline resilience, corrosion prevention, asset health, and critical infrastructure upgrades.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, operational stakeholders, regulators, and supply chain partners.
- Lead pre-contract, progress, and operational review meetings.
- Oversee tendering, planning, mobilisation, and delivery of new workstreams.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across engineering, construction, commissioning, quality, and operational functions.
- Ensure safe delivery of works within a live high-pressure gas environment, maintaining strict compliance with permit systems and operational controls.
- Drive performance against programme, budget, quality, and contractual KPIs.
- Manage commercial performance, forecasting, resource planning, and supply chain engagement.
- Promote a strong SHEQ culture, ensuring compliance with COMAH regulations and industry standards.
- Lead audits, inspections, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience delivering multiple contracts within the Gas Transmission, Energy Infrastructure, or High-Pressure Pipeline sectors.
- Strong understanding of asset integrity, corrosion management, cathodic protection programmes, and pipeline infrastructure works.
- Experience working within live operational environments, including COMAH-regulated facilities or other major hazard industries.
- Demonstrable leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong knowledge of SHEQ management systems, regulatory compliance, and operational assurance processes.
- Experience managing programme delivery, subcontractors, and supply chain partners.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to manage cost, programme, risk, and performance outcomes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience delivering works for National Gas or comparable transmission network operators is advantageous.
Qualifications
- Industry-related Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Construction, Utilities, or Infrastructure Management.
- Professional membership such as MCIOB, MICE, IEng, CEng, or equivalent desirable.
- Valid CSCS Card.
- SMSTS.
- UK Driving Licence.
