Our client is a marine sector business with an excellent reputation for innovation and product development within the marine and maritime industry. Following a recent acquisition of the previously family-owned business by a private equity investor and the exit of the previous Managing Director, an opportunity has arisen to recruit a new Managing Director with the specific aim of building up sales performance for the business, whilst maintaining strong EBITDA performance.

The business operates from a single location in Essex, where there is the opportunity for expansion, including the potential for property development within the site, which could be run as a separate project. The business currently enjoys annual turnover of around £25m and the private equity owners believe it has the potential to triple in size over the next 3-5 years. As such they wish to work with an incoming Managing Director on putting further investment into new products, new technology and increasing capacity so that they may capitalise on the opportunity for growth.

Ideally we seek a Managing Director with a background in leisure marine, maritime, engineering, electrical engineering, electronics or marine engineering:

  • Experience of P&L management within an SME business or experience of autonomously running a business unit or division of a larger group.
  • Must be able to ‘lead from the front’ as a Managing Director, motivating and galvanising teams, and clearly setting direction for the business which everyone can strongly buy into and benefit from.
  • The Managing Director will need experience of developing new strategic markets, distribution channels and opportunities for growth.
  • Ideally degree qualified or equivalent, must have strong interpersonal and communication skills as a leader.
