At Lineage, helping to feed the world is more than a job – it's a purpose we live every day. As the world's largest and most innovative provider of temperature-controlled logistics solutions, we play a critical role in keeping the global food supply chain moving. From farms and manufacturers to schools, hospitals, prisons, and restaurants, our teams ensure essential food products reach the people who need them most.
We are currently recruiting for a Warehouse Shift Manager to join our team at our Heywood site.
Location: Heywood
Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off nights, 19:00-07:00.
Salary: Up to £48,000 per annum, inclusive of the night shift allowance, depending on experience.
This is not a role for someone who prefers to manage from behind a desk. We're looking for a leader who is prepared to roll their sleeves up, lead from the front, and work alongside the team to ensure every order leaves the warehouse safely, accurately, and on time.
About the Role
Our Heywood site is one of the UK’s flagship automated cold storage facilities, playing a vital role in keeping the nation’s food supply chain moving. The large-scale, fast-paced operation combines advanced automation, temperature-controlled warehousing and 24/7 logistics, supporting some of the UK’s leading food brands. With a strong focus on safety, innovation, operational excellence and teamwork, Heywood offers an exciting environment to build a rewarding career within a global logistics organisation.
As the Night Shift Manager, you'll be responsible for driving performance, maintaining high operational standards, and ensuring the shift delivers against demanding service levels night after night. You'll lead a team of hardworking warehouse operatives, creating a culture of accountability, safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement while ensuring every order is dispatched accurately and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of warehouse operatives, creating a culture of accountability, teamwork, and high performance.
- Lead from the front with a hands-on approach, supporting the team during busy periods and operational challenges.
- Monitor productivity, accuracy, service levels, and attendance to ensure operational targets are consistently achieved.
- Provide coaching, feedback, and development to help individuals and the wider team succeed.
- Oversee all warehouse activities including de-picking, order assembly, cage building, loading, and dispatch.
- Ensure customer orders are picked accurately and loaded on time for delivery to schools, hospitals, prisons, and restaurants.
- Plan labour and allocate resources effectively to meet changing operational demands.
- Monitor workflow, resolve issues quickly, and drive continuous improvement across the shift.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture and ensure safe working practices are followed at all times.
- Maintain compliance with company procedures, operational standards, and site policies.
- Conduct investigations, audits, and corrective actions where required.
- Produce accurate shift reports, communicate key updates, and ensure effective handovers between shifts.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in a Warehouse Team Leader, Supervisor, or Shift Manager role.
- Experience working within fast-paced warehouse, logistics, distribution, or food supply chain operations.
- A hands-on leadership style with the willingness to get involved and support the team when needed.
- Strong people management and coaching skills.
- Passion for delivering results and meeting customer deadlines.
- Excellent understanding of health and safety within a warehouse environment.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make effective decisions in a fast-moving operation.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) is desirable.
- MHE licences are advantageous but not essential.
The Ideal Candidate
You'll be someone who takes pride in getting the job done right. You understand that successful warehouse operations depend on teamwork, commitment, and strong leadership. You're comfortable working in a chilled environment, thrive in a physically demanding operation, and know how to motivate a team to deliver exceptional results night after night. Most importantly, you'll lead by example, work safely, and never ask your team to do something you're not prepared to do yourself.
What's In It For You?
- Permanent opportunity with a direct employer – we won’t hire you through a recruitment agency.
- Career development opportunities within a global market-leading business.
- Opportunity to earn an additional day's holiday each year, up to the maximum of one extra week for length of service.
- Free onsite parking.
- Employee Assistance Programme with access to 24/7 confidential counselling and support.
- Be part of a business that plays a vital role in feeding communities across the UK.
If you're a driven warehouse leader who enjoys working in a hands-on environment and takes pride in delivering results safely and on time, we'd love to hear from you.
