Health & Safety
You as an employee are responsible for health and safety to protect you and the staff around you. Before commencing any work, you must assess the job/area you are working on and report any risks or hazards to your line manager to re‑assess.
Performance Measures
Completion of the key functions, intake, loading, targets achieved, vehicle turnaround times. No stock on loading bays. Monitor the cleanliness of the zone at all times and enforce cleaning of the workstations and surrounding areas during quiet periods or when waiting for the runner to bring out pallets. Request work from your Shift Manager. Use the runner to keep the loading bay free from stock at all times. Report the theft of any product to a Manager.
Common Responsibilities
- Ensure that the drivers' keys are on the hooks on the loading bay to avoid accidents.
- Ensure that the floor of the vehicle is suitable to take the weight of the material handling equipment (MHE) being used to load/unload the vehicle.
- Ensure that the traffic lights are in order to avoid accidents.
- Before loading or unloading, ensure the temperatures are checked with a calibrated probe, report discrepancies to the office.
- Load or unload pallets directly between vehicle and cold store via the loading bay but never have the stock on the bay longer than 30 minutes.
- Always communicate with reach truck drivers and advise them on urgent jobs.
- Always check the F15 messages screen (on receipt entry) to see if the customer has special requirements when booking stock in.
- Check the condition of the pallet and wrapping of the pallet before loading or unloading.
- Check the height of the pallet. Will it fit in sites?
- On goods in, check best before dates.
- Check the quality of packaging and quantity on the pallet against that stated on the computer.
- On goods out, quantity and quality must be checked.
- Best before dates must be checked to make sure stock has a good shelf life on despatch.
- Missing cases must be looked for in the cold store and reported to the stock office.
- Do not despatch pallets with stock missing!
- Check the product description and pack size is clear and that it is correct as stated on the computer.
- Check and record batch number on customer stock (if applicable) and enter onto the computer.
- Check and record weights on pallets or cases as specified by the customer.
- Monitor the receipt entry screen to make sure pallets are sited before end of each shift.
- Consolidate small pallets if the product is exactly the same or if it is a pick order.
- Check that all charges are applied to customers' accounts for all extra work involved in unloading.
- Make sure all company trailers are clean inside before loading.
- Close inner doors on all company trailers after loading or during loading if waiting for stock (cold store).
- When possible, complete a load before taking breaks and take different break times to other checkers.
- Advise the stock office of all discrepancies as they arise.
- If in doubt, ask your shift supervisor/manager.
