Location: Yeovil, Somerset

Contract Type: 12 month Contract

Pay: £35 - £46 per hour PAYE only, plus holiday pay in addition

Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Working Pattern: Hybrid (up to 2 days from home following initial onboarding period)

Several contract opportunities available for Mechanical Design Engineers to join a highly regarded aerospace engineering environment in Yeovil. You will work on advanced aerospace systems, contributing to both concept development and detailed design across complex engineering programmes. You will play a key role within a collaborative design team, supporting the development of innovative engineering solutions across Environmental Control Systems (ECS) and Life Support Systems (LSS).

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop concept designs supported by engineering analysis and consideration of manufacturing methods and cost
  • Produce detailed designs, including full drawing packs and associated technical documentation
  • Complete tolerance analysis and ensure design compliance with relevant standards and procedures
  • Process engineering changes and maintain accurate configuration control
  • Collaborate closely with production engineering and planning teams to ensure designs are optimised for manufacture
  • Deliver work in line with project schedules, milestones, and quality expectations
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and best practice within the design function

Ideal candidate profile:

  • Experience in mechanical design, ideally within precision components or aerospace-related industries
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD (preferably Siemens NX)
  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Awareness of configuration control processes
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques, including machining, is advantageous
  • Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma principles is beneficial
  • Strong attention to detail with a proactive, results-driven approach
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-project team environment
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is preferred
  • Equivalent experience will be considered for candidates with strong practical expertise
