Heavy Duty Plant Fitter
Reporting to: Site Manager/Directors
Location: Recycling Yard (Merseyside)
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: 47 ½ hours per week at £24.00 - £26.00 per hour (Dependent on experience)
Overtime rate at £32.00 per hour
Hours of Work: 07:00 - 17:00 Monday to Friday, 07:00 - 12:00 Saturday (when required)
Additional hours as needed for maintenance and emergency repairs
Holiday: 28 days per year (including bank holidays)

Purpose: To carry out maintenance, servicing, and repairs of all heavy plant and wash plant equipment used in the recycling operation. The role ensures continuous, safe, and efficient operation of machines including excavators, loading shovels, crusher, screener, and wash plant.
Key Duties:
- Perform planned and reactive maintenance on heavy plant machinery (excavators, shovels, wash plant).
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults.
- Inspect and maintain the aggregate wash plant to ensure safe and optimal operation.
- Conduct routine servicing and preventative maintenance to maximise uptime.
- Monitor wash plant performance, adjusting processes to ensure output quality.
- Accurately complete service records, inspection reports, and maintenance logs.
- Work alongside other fitters, plant operators, and the management team.
- Ensure all tasks are carried out in line with our health and safety standards.
Responsibilities:
- Equipment Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on loading shovel(s), excavator(s), washplant, crusher and screener. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues to ensure optimal equipment performance.
- Scheduled Servicing: Implement and adhere to a proactive servicing schedule for all machinery. Record and document all servicing activities, including parts replaced and maintenance performed.
- Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to all safety protocols and always wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Ensure that all equipment meets safety standards and promptly address any safety concerns.
- Good Housekeeping & Garage Standards: Maintain a clean and organized working environment within the garage to enhance operational efficiency and safety. Implement good housekeeping practices, including proper storage of tools, equipment, and spare parts.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, including operators and supervisors, to address equipment issues promptly and minimize downtime. Work alongside the Washplant Operator to ensure efficient and safe operation of the wash plant. Communicate effectively with management regarding maintenance needs, equipment status, and potential improvements.
- Documentation: Keep accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used. Generate reports as required, providing insights into equipment performance and potential areas for improvement.
Working Conditions: Outdoor yard and workshop-based role. Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions and adapting to a physically demanding environment.
