We are an established accountancy practice based in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport, looking for an experienced Accounting Technician to join our team on a full-time basis. The role involves working with a portfolio of smaller clients, including limited companies, sole traders and property landlords. You will be responsible for day-to-day bookkeeping, payroll, VAT preparation and dealing with routine client queries. Maintain bookkeeping records for a range of small business clients, including limited companies, sole traders and property clients.
Prepare rental income and expenditure statements for landlords. Prepare draft VAT returns, including checking and reconciling the underlying records, for review by the Practice Accountant. Process client payroll from start to finish using Moneysoft Payroll Manager. Prepare and submit CIS returns. Use accounting software including VT, Sage, Xero and QuickBooks. Deal with clients by phone and email, answering routine bookkeeping and payroll queries and resolving day-to-day issues. Identify any issues requiring further review and refer them to the Practice Accountant.
Experience:
At least 3 years' experience working in an accountancy practice, with hands-on experience of bookkeeping, VAT and payroll.
Qualifications:
AAT qualification is preferred. Candidates who are qualified by experience (QBE) and have a strong background in accountancy practice will also be considered. Communication: Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deal confidently with clients and explain routine accounting matters clearly. Technical skills: Experience using VT Software and Moneysoft Payroll Manager is an advantage. Experience with Xero, QuickBooks and Sage is also preferred. Excel and Word: Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. Accounting and tax knowledge: Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and general accounting procedures, including CIS, VAT for the construction industry, different VAT schemes and the VAT Cash Accounting Scheme.
