To provide efficient support to the Assistant Principal responsible for safeguarding and wellbeing in managing safeguarding across the academy. The postholder will work closely with senior leaders on a range of safeguarding matters, ensuring concerns are responded to effectively and in line with statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
Using MIS systems such as CPOMS, the postholder will maintain accurate records and contribute to safeguarding processes, including attendance at TAF, family support, and child protection meetings.
Main Responsibilities
- Work with the Assistant Principal to provide an effective safeguarding response and monitoring across the Academy.
- Lead on day to day safeguarding matters at the academy.
- Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and take appropriate action, including referrals to external agencies, in the absence of the DSL.
- Be the first point of contact for staff to seek advice from on safeguarding matters.
- Support the Assistant Principal (Designated Safeguarding Lead) on leading a culture of rigorous safeguarding across the academy.
- Attend multi-agency meetings on behalf of the academy/DSL, including TAF, family support meetings, and child protection conferences.
- Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and disclosures in line with academy policy and statutory guidance.
- Complete regular safeguarding training, including DSL-level updates, through the Local Authority and other providers, and contribute to the delivery of safeguarding training for staff.
- Ensure safeguarding records are accurate, up to date and securely maintained through systems such as CPOMS.
- Use safeguarding information to identify trends, patterns, and emerging risks within the academy.
- Build strong working relationships with Children’s Services and other relevant external agencies.
- Support the development of trauma-informed practice for vulnerable children within the academy.
- Support the DSL in preparing safeguarding reports for the Principal, Governors, and staff.
- Maintain strict compliance with GDPR and ensure confidentiality of safeguarding information at all times.
- Maintain awareness of current educational and safeguarding legislation and guidance, including KCSIE, and alert the Principal to any relevant updates.
- Complete duties across the academy and supervise students as required.
- Support the operation of the Academy Isolation/Inclusion Unit, including supervision and staffing as required.
