The Department of Chemistry and Physics at Lincoln Memorial University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Chemistry. The position serves the undergraduate program on the Harrogate, TN campus. LMU is dedicated to serving the Appalachia region with a student population representing the diversity of the region and beyond.
The candidate must have earned a PhD in Chemistry or an appropriate related discipline. Primary teaching responsibilities may include lecture and lab sections for General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, and/or other courses based on interests, credentials, and department needs. The faculty member will have the primary responsibility (~80% of time) of teaching. Courses serve a variety of students from chemistry majors to pre-health and pre-vet. Other responsibilities will be in scholarship and service in support of the University, College, and Department missions. Scholarship will be based on the faculty member’s area of interest and support undergraduate research through mentorship.
To ensure a smooth transition into our academic community, the successful candidate will participate in LMU’s New Faculty Academy. Additionally, during their first year, the new faculty member will enjoy moderated scholarship and service expectations while receiving guidance and support from a faculty mentor assigned by the department.
Required Qualifications
- Earned PhD in Chemistry or appropriate related discipline
- Educational preparation in accordance with requirements of the University and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
- Evidence of potential for effective teaching and scholarly activity
