We are seeking an exceptional Technical Manager to provide strategic leadership of technical services within our School of Engineering and Physical Sciences.

Responsibilities

  • As part of the School’s leadership team, you will shape technical strategy, lead capability development, and ensure infrastructure supports growth.
  • Set and deliver technical strategy aligned with School and University priorities.
  • Build and lead a high-performing, agile technical workforce.
  • Oversee complex laboratory and specialist environments, ensuring they remain fit for future demand.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to academics and leadership on infrastructure, investment, and capability.
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and efficiency across technical services.
  • Ensure rigorous health, safety, and compliance frameworks in a complex environment.

Qualifications

  • We are looking for a credible and forward‑looking leader with the ability to operate confidently at senior level.
  • A strong track record in leading technical, scientific, or laboratory‑based services.
  • Experience of managing complex operations, resources, and multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • The ability to influence, challenge and partner with senior academic stakeholders.
  • Commercial awareness, including exposure to capital investment, procurement, or research environments.
  • A clear commitment to developing people, capability and culture.
