LC Legal is delighted to be partnering with a leading Scottish-headquartered, full-service commercial law firm who are looking to recruit a Solicitor / Associate specialising in Construction (non-contentious) into its growing team on a permanent, full-time basis
The role offers the chance to work on major property, regeneration and energy projects across the UK, with the flexibility to be based in either the Edinburgh or Glasgow office.
The role
Joining a collaborative non-contentious construction team, you will advise on the construction aspects of major property developments and regeneration projects, including development agreements, building contracts, bonds and guarantees, and professional appointments. You will also advise on significant engineering projects, particularly in the energy sector, including onshore wind, hydro, battery storage, solar, tidal and wave projects.
Although the role is based in Edinburgh or Glasgow, projects are located throughout the UK. You will act for a broad client base including developers, contractors, public sector bodies, funders and consultants.
This role provides an excellent platform for an experienced solicitor looking to work with minimum guidance, build relationships with key client contacts, supervise and develop colleagues, and contribute to the continued growth of a highly regarded team.
Key responsibilities include
- Advising on the construction aspects of major property development, regeneration and energy projects
- Drafting and negotiating development agreements, building contracts, bonds and guarantees and professional appointments, producing effective drafts with minimum guidance
- Providing technical advice to colleagues and presenting legal information clearly and understandably
- Managing your own workload within agreed timescales and budgets, keeping clients and colleagues up to date with developments
- Building relationships with key contacts at client organisations and identifying business development and cross-selling opportunities, including contributing to eBulletins, client seminars and other marketing activities
- Delegating and supervising work across fee-earning and non-fee-earning colleagues, providing feedback and delivering training sessions
- Contributing to the team’s operational goals, the firm’s knowledge management and wider practice events
About you
- 4+ years’ PQE in non-contentious construction law
- Experience advising on building contracts, development agreements, bonds and guarantees and professional appointments
- Previous exposure to engineering projects in the energy sector, such as onshore wind, hydro, battery storage, solar, tidal or wave, would be advantageous, although not essential
- Strong drafting, presentation, and communication skills with a commercial and client-focused approach
- Motivated to develop your leadership skills and your career within a collaborative, high-performing team
