The College Lincoln College is a medium-sized College housed in attractive medieval buildings in the centre of the city, on Turl Street. The College has 50 Fellows, around 600 students, equally divided between graduates and undergraduates, and a large body of administrative and domestic staff. The Website Officer role is a newly created fixed-term position, established to lead the review and ongoing management of the College’s website and related digital platforms. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of extension following a review of the College’s needs in this area. The postholder will be responsible for the organisation, quality, and effectiveness of website content, with a particular focus on improving structure, usability, and accessibility. This will include undertaking a comprehensive review of the existing website, developing a clear content strategy, and implementing improvements to information architecture and navigation. This is not a web development role. Technical development and infrastructure are managed by the College IT team and external providers. The Website Officer will work closely with these colleagues, acting as the lead on content, structure, and user experience, and translating business needs into clear requirements for technical delivery.
The role would suit someone with strong written communication skills, experience of managing websites, and the ability to organise and present information clearly for a range of audiences.
Duties
- Conducting a comprehensive audit of the College website (WordPress), identifying areas for improvement in content, style, structure, usability, and accessibility.
- Scoping, developing, and managing a College Intranet (for example, through SharePoint), including its content structure and ongoing maintenance.
- Developing and implementing a content strategy for the College website and Intranet, including recommendations for content structure.
- Updating and managing content on the College website, including checking new edits for consistency of style and content.
- Ensuring website and Intranet security, in conjunction with the Web Developer and College IT team.
- Ensuring that the mobile version of the website and Intranet is navigable.
- Creating and managing online forms.
- In collaboration with the Communications Manager, writing and publishing College News Items.
- Maintaining content on the College section of the My Oxford app.
- Coordinating with the various Offices of the College regarding website content and images.
- Monitoring College website and Intranet for GDPR compliance, liaising with the DPO when necessary.
- This will include archiving material in the College’s electronic archive, DigiSafe.
- Undertaking regular training, as required by your Line Manager.
- Regular attendance of, and participation in, IT and web user groups.
- Performing any other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the College Office.

Essential Skills And Experience
- Proficiency in digital technology, including Microsoft Office products.
- Experience of website management.
- Experience of working with content management systems (e.g. WordPress or similar).
- Understanding of data security and accessibility requirements.
- Understanding of best practice in information architecture, navigation, and user experience.
- Experience of digital content creation and editing for institutional or organisational websites.
