Lincat – Machine Shop Team Leader, Weekday Night Shift

We are looking to recruit a new Machine Shop Team Leader to join our busy team at Lincat to support the production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation of the Machine Shop function, supporting the Manager with the day-to-day management of the manufacturing processes, overseeing a team of operatives to ensure the daily program of work is adhered to, and achieved. Provide leadership and line management to the team, coordinating their workloads, providing support to ensure the complete delivery of metalwork to Assembly, monitoring any issues, ensuring production targets (KPIs) and quality standards are executed to meet the requirements of the customer.
Hours of work are 40 hours per week, Monday to Thursday from 6pm to 3:50am.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Lead by example in relation to all health and safety policies set out by the organisation and challenge non-adherence in all departments.
- Ensure all Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to within theMachine Shop department, fostering a safe working culture.
Read and accurately follow engineering drawings/instructions.
Correctly use a variety of tools, machinery, and equipment.
Work under minimum supervision and manage your own time, resolving problems
to ensure that production targets (KPIs) and customer deadlines are achieved.
Liaise with other departments to ensure the smooth running of production in Machine Shop, resolving any day-to-day issues that may arise.
Escalate only issues that you are unable to resolve to the Machine Shop/Assembly Supervision.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with own team members, other internal departments, and teams.
Aspire to achieve a fully skilled level of performance and demonstrate commitment, motivation, and a willingness to be trained in all areas of production.
In addition, this role will:
The collation of accurate production output figures or other measures and providing these in a timely manner to the Production Office where appropriate.
Ensuring tools, equipment and machinery is used appropriately and escalating any issues with these to the correct department.
Keep up to date with the day to day working of the team and act as the first point of contact for the Production Manager, advising the Production Manager of any issues that havent been resolved.
Deal with queries and problems escalated by team members for resolution in a timely manner, escalating issues to the Production Manager where appropriate. Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems where possible.
Work with the Production Manager and management team to update and improve departmental and company processes, including the development of new procedures and similar continuous improvements initiatives.
Work as a full team member by sharing knowledge and advice when required, providing cover, and carrying out any other duties which may reasonably be requested of the role when required.
Undertake all duties in such a manner as to comply with company health & safety, security procedures and guidelines.
Team Interactions
With the Production Supervisor (Machine Shop)
- Conduct regular and effective shift changeovers, ensuring safety, people, quality and efficiency issues are comprehensively accounted for.
- Ensure that continuous improvement efforts are effectively introduced and practised within the Machine Shop.
- Collaboratively conduct labour movements within the Machine Shop to allow for effective and consistent running of shifts.
- Regularly review labour hours to ensure balance is maintained between facilities and departments to always ensure 100%+ utilisation.
With the Production Supervisor (Assembly)
Promote collaborative working between machine shop and assembly staff.
Regularly review labour requirements in both assembly and machine shop and share resource to maximise overall production utilisation.
Collaboratively manage the production skills matrix to enable a multi skilled workforce to ensure production flexibility.
Liaise regularly to ensure that metalwork demands are fulfilled, and complete kits are delivered consistently to Assembly.
Experience, Skills and Knowledge
- Previous experience in managing a team of individuals to achieve set Production targets and KPIs.
- Demonstratable knowledge of skills required to motivate, develop, and encourage a Production team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
Able to work cross functionally and collaboratively with other stakeholders.
Ability to foster and maintain a positive working culture.
Good understanding of customer deliverables and the impact of failure/cost of poor quality.
Ability to lead by example, gain respect from the team and communicate with clarity whilst demonstrating excellence in approach to work and people activities.
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Feedback to the Management Team to share ideas and improve operation/processes, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities.
