Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of engineers delivering PPM, reactive maintenance, and fault diagnosis on commercial split systems, VRV/VRF, AHUs, chillers, and refrigeration units.
- Serve as a technical escalation point, assisting engineers with complex system failures, client issues, and compliance challenges.
- Ensure compliance with F‑Gas regulations, refrigerant handling, environmental legislation, H&S legislation, Permit to Work (PTW) procedures, and other statutory requirements.
- Assist with managing the engineering rota, ensuring adequate cover for planned work and reactive call-outs (including standby or out‑of‑hours duty as required).
- Supervise on-site activities, ensuring safe working practices, quality standards, and technical integrity.
- Oversee and deliver small works and upgrades, installations, system replacements, refrigerant tracking, and efficiency improvements.
- Work alongside internal teams to maintain accurate records within the CAFM system, service history, maintenance tasks, compliance checks, and refrigerant usage.
- Deliver toolbox talks, technical coaching, and regulatory updates (F‑Gas, safe handling, environmental guidance) to ensure continuous team competence.
- Support multi‑skilled engineers with non‑AC support tasks when operational needs require.
- Liaise with clients and internal stakeholders to manage expectations, resolve escalations, and ensure satisfaction.
- Support line management with performance monitoring, training needs identification, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- This role will require the person to work as AP for Air conditioning. There will be an element of National travel as and when required.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (or equivalent technical qualification).
- Valid F‑Gas certification, Category 1 (C&G 2079 or equivalent).
- Time‑served / apprenticeship background in air conditioning / HVAC / refrigeration systems.
- City & Guilds 7189 (Refrigeration & Air Conditioning) Level 2 or 3.
- City & Guilds 6090 (Refrigeration, Air Conditioning & Heat Pump Systems).
- Electrical qualification or knowledge.
- Experience working under the SFG20 framework for maintenance schedules.
- Health & Safety qualifications e.g. IOSH, or equivalent.
- Experience with larger complex sites, or critical plant systems (e.g. chillers, large AHUs).
