POSITION SUMMARY: The Accountant - Reinsurance is responsible for supporting the internal controls, financial reporting and accounting for the Company’s activities as appropriate based on a specific functional area. This role participates in projects to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of reporting requirements. The Accountant – Reinsurance will closely interact across several areas of the business and work with the wider Finance Team to add value across relevant teams.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Help with preparation of accurate financial reporting, both for internal and external purposes following required GAAP and regulatory standards, including providing support for more technical areas.
- Work with relevant partners to ensure accuracy of transactions and financial disclosure.
- Support the continued enhancement and ongoing development of multiple financial systems ensuring that all Finance needs are met.
- Assist with completing aspects of the monthly and quarterly close, including financial reporting, in compliance with US, or other relevant GAAP, or other regulatory requirements.
- Help prepare and review detailed analysis and monthly/quarterly reconciliations, including reconciliation to the general ledger.
- Communicate with our auditors.
May also be responsible for:
- Helping with the preparation of technical accounting memos observing US GAAP and help prepare more technically challenging accounting memos.
- Ensure appropriate SOX 404 processes exist and are followed for preparation and submission of financial data.
Strategic Projects:
- Contribute to miscellaneous project work and provide general assistance to the Finance Department and other teams.
- Provide ad-hoc support to the CAO, Global Corporate Controller and Business Leads.
EXPECTED COMPETENCIES:
- A bachelors or university degree preferred, or comparable experience.
- A professional accounting designation required or being currently pursued (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CPA).
- At least 2 to 5 years relevant prior experience (Ideally Big Four audit experience, preferably within the relevant functional area (ie, (re)insurance, financial services).
- Prioritises responsibilities, makes effective use of time and remains flexible to changing work needs/demands.
- Performs with minimal supervision.
- Applies strong technical skills to achieve results.
- Looks for opportunities to explore and gain new technical skills.
- Knows and meets industry standards.
- Consistently meets expectations, excels when it matters most and responds quickly and effectively to resolve issues.

- Experience with public companies and SOX 404 is advantageous.
- A strong working knowledge of general ledger and other accounting sub-systems is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, and other relevant GAAP as applicable.
