The Fibre Upgrade Programme is one of the largest investments in UK infrastructure and is reliant on effective data-driven insights and decision support. As the programme scales up and introduces more complex infrastructure solutions, the Insights and Data Analytics capability becomes increasingly critical, providing high-quality insights, analytics, data management, data anomaly detection and remediation to answer key questions and support decision-making at both operational and strategic levels.

The Insights and Analytics Lead plays a pivotal role in driving forward and implementing the insights and analytics capability aligned to the Programme Business requirements. The role will take responsibility for consistent and effective intelligence insight and reporting, support and manage key stakeholders both within and external to the Fibre Upgrade Programme and oversee activity across the analytics team. The role will take a hands-on approach, defining and implementing effective and forward-looking data analysis, data anomaly detection and remediation, data modelling, data governance, insights, solutions, and visualisation.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Central point of contact for analytics and insights programmes within the Data team, working with stakeholders across the business to define and deliver impactful reporting, data modelling, insights, solutions, and visualisation.
  • Drive strategy and development of the data analytics maturity within the team, moving from reactive reporting through to proactive and predictive analytics, driving value add activities and enhancing efficiencies and automation of analysis.
  • Maintain hands-on approach, designing, building and deploying insights to support the Programme and to answer key business challenges. Deliver and interpret operational data, reporting and the associated story (the so-what) to senior stakeholders.
  • Drive a data enhancement and cleanse programme to detect key data challenges and anomalies and ensure remediation, including cleanse of key UPRN data.
  • Define key metrics aligned to business goals and determine trusted data sources and data flows to build effective analysis and reporting. Implement dashboards and reports, working closely with the wider DABI team to deliver a single source of truth. Evolve metrics in line with the business goals and incorporate lead/lag measures.
  • Manage tracking and prioritisation of requests and queries into the DABI team both from internal stakeholders and external partners. Oversee team activity to ensure timely delivery, balancing tactical programme activity with strategic capability development.
  • Manage and mentor junior team members.
Essential/Desirable Skills, Knowledge, Or Experience (Inc. professional or technical qualifications)
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel (VBA beneficial)
  • Advanced SQL skills including merging, managing, interrogating and extracting data, inc experience with Big Query / GCP
  • Proven capability in building intuitive insights, developing and presenting clear data-led business impacts
  • Strong technical understanding of telecoms fixed networks (HFC, XGS-PON and Fibre roll-out programs) and associated network data structures
  • Expertise in ETL and data-modelling, working with big datasets – transforming and manipulating data, and automating procedures.
  • Experience developing and reporting on analysis and key metrics, presenting information effectively and clearly to stakeholders
  • Comprehensive understanding of data management best practices including demonstrated experience with data profiling, sourcing, and cleansing routines
  • Team management experience is essential
