The Payments Services Technology team, based across 10 countries, are responsible for the IT systems that facilitate the payments processing, sanctions screening, and the clearing and settling of all payments via SWIFT and in-country Domestic Payment schemes.
Payment infrastructure allows our customers and clients to move funds freely and fast across the globe, pay their suppliers, credit salaries, pay taxes directly to authorities and transfer money via multiple channels.
- Job Summary
- The job is a hands-on SME engineering role for owning and driving the engineering strategy and delivery quality for GPS.
- Working in tandem with the key engineering leadership to draw the roadmap of the new scalable elevated architecture to accelerate business delivery.
- As the lead engineer, also is responsible for architectural and code quality, tracking technical and architectural risk and working with delivery leads and product owners on priority
- The role will encompass accountability for application design, development and testing through production implementation.
- Ensure strong operating environment for high quality delivery, faster time-to-market and continual productivity improvements.
- Provide thought leadership on latest Dev Ops and AI development methodologies, innovation and transformation, and can evolve, modify and adapt in a dynamic environment.
- Managing the required cross-skilling and re/up-skilling of the organization to deliver strong change agenda.
- Manage various senior management stakeholders across Technology, Ops and Business teams.
- Building capability for effective engagement and execution as well as building thought leadership for wider adoption of Dev Ops/Agile, APIs and reusable services.

Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management
- Own planning and tracking of financial forecasts, resource planning.
- Ensure optimal use of resources for attaining financial goals
- People Management
- Develop and manage high performing engineering team to meet present and future needs
- Develop Talent and leadership at all levels including opportunities for growth, stretch roles, global leadership and succession for key/critical roles.
- Attract, develop and retain talent across delivery leadership and technical/functional SME
- Lead performance management including compensation, vertical/lateral progression and reward & recognition globally.
- Delivery and Application Management
- Provide SME knowledge in cloud based micro-service architecture, resiliency, capacity and supportability.
- Collaborate with engineering and support leads to provide a secure and resilient framework for payments services
- Partner with the GPS AI lead to develop a AI enabled PDLC and scale this across the community
- Build strong productive working relationships with technology leadership, Payments Operations and product owners
- Analyze and address/fix delivery issues in a timely manner
- Lead and provide direction and guidance as needed to the delivery team
- Responsible for communications to stakeholders and Payments Services management and any escalations
- Active involvement and ownership of support activities covering stability, efficiency and improvement initiatives
- Lead and Manage regional IT Service Management teams and liaise closely with Regional Payments Operations teams for effective service management
- Drive automated security patching across the GPS estate.
- Help prioritise RTB efficiency initiatives ensuring year-on-year cost efficiency
- Support the management of cyber security threats, internal and external (in-country regulators like PRA, HKMA, MAS etc.) audits.
- Effective Management of audit items and their timely and satisfactory closure.
- Desired Experience Profile
- Strong technology experience including 13+ years of leadership experience in technology and architecture – preferably in Banking and financial services (Payments is a plus).
- An understanding of API technology, containerisation, micro services.
- Exposure to regulatory requirements and demands is desirable.
- Experience of managing/influencing dev teams including managers, engineers, designers, vendor resources etc. across multiple locations and geographies in matrix model.
- Ability to effectively drive and lead change in a global organization like HSBC in terms of scale, size and complexity
- Strong knowledge and experience of managing financial, operation, market and regulatory drivers impacting complex and dynamic technology environment
- Strong understanding of global technology trends especially in the Payments domain
- Sound experience of building, leading, developing and retaining high performing teams.
- Effective decision-making, influencing, critical thinking and problem solving skills Strong business and technology acumen, and proven experience in building a vision and developing strategy supporting the vision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
