Purpose of the role: The purpose of a Product Owner is to maximize the value of the product by defining a clear product vision, managing and prioritising the product backlog, and ensuring the right things are built to meet user/customer needs. Product Owners are responsible for developing a roadmap and driving execution of their product area or sub‑journey, applying continuous improvement principles and techniques.

Accountabilities:

  • Ensure Product Alignment with Business Goals: Align product and feature priorities with broader objectives, using market research, customer feedback and industry trends to identify new product opportunities.
  • Communicate Product Vision to Delivery Teams: Clearly articulate the product vision and goals, ensuring alignment and inspiration for the delivery teams.
  • Create and Refine User Stories: Write clear, concise user stories with detailed acceptance criteria and refine them to support successful development.
  • Agile Events: Participate in sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to keep the team aligned and focused.
  • Manage the Product Backlog: Prioritise the backlog so that the highest value features are delivered first, balancing risk and future proofing.
  • Act as the Voice of the Customer: Continuously gather feedback to ensure the product meets user needs and improves overall experience.
  • Acceptance Criteria Definition & Management: Review and accept or reject work completed during sprints, ensuring all delivered features meet agreed criteria.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work with customers, business leaders and marketing teams to gather requirements and align the product vision with business objectives.
  • Monitor Product Performance and Iterate: Assess performance using KPIs and customer feedback, adjusting backlog and roadmap accordingly.
  • Risk and Control: Identify, mitigate and report risks, ensuring alignment between product management and control functions.
