The role is that of a Regional Coverage Director, responsible for business development, originating new business and growing the presence of the HSBC Innovation Banking in Scotland & Northern Ireland. A sector and life‑stage agnostic role, giving the individual ultimate flexibility in being able to support the Innovation ecosystem (from Early‑Stage banking right through to Late‑Stage lending opportunities).
Reporting to the Head of Regional Coverage, this role will be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow with a remit to originate across Scotland & Northern Ireland. Candidates with strong connections and the ability to maintain a consistent physical presence in this region would be highly advantageous.
You’ll be responsible for executing on HSBC Innovation Banking’s commercial banking strategy, identifying and targeting growth markets, working with internal and external stakeholders to build our brand and product solutions for high‑growth companies in the Regions.
The candidate should convey the entire platform of our services in the target market, be the conduit for companies, founders and investors into our global network and work closely with the UK Relationship and Credit underwriting teams. This individual will convey the bank’s strategic areas of focus to investors and founders in the market as well as educating internal stakeholders on regional opportunities.
You will drive new business origination by building deep relationships with the Venture Capital and advisory community and ensure the growth of the HSBC Innovation Banking brand in market – including representing the bank in press and PR activity, at conferences and ecosystem events.
What You Can Expect To Be Doing
- Strategy: Responsible for executing on the HSBC Innovation Banking market strategy. Working alongside internal teams to deliver on this strategy while meeting both quantitative business development targets and qualitative goals.
- Channel and Ecosystem Development: Bring the HSBC Innovation Banking network, both internal and external, into the East of England market for the benefit of the ecosystem.
- Brand Building: Grow the bank’s brand in local and international markets. This involves speaking at conferences and events, media coverage, interviews, podcasts, and publishing thought leadership content with the aim of increasing our market share.
- Cross‑Sell: Pro‑actively identify and deliver cross‑sell opportunities to deepen relationships with prospective clients. Originate and evaluate prospective businesses and work with product partners to structure suitable solutions to help clients scale and succeed.
- Debt Execution: The successful candidate will work across internal teams to drive the client onboarding and credit process to a successful conclusion maintaining client contact where necessary, now and in the future.
Requirements
- Proven track‑record of operating in the Innovation space, winning new relationships and with an existing network of VCs and high growth companies.
- Expert Relationship skills with excellent all‑round knowledge of banking products, including Treasury, Clearing and Trade Finance Solutions.
- Validated ability to build meaningful and strategic relationships with CEOs/CFOs and VCs.
- Experience in selling and strategically positioning a wide range of banking products.
- Ability to identify, structure and manage debt transactions with high growth, venture‑backed companies.
- Strong negotiation, sales, and marketing skills. Excellent deal closing skills.
- Ability to collaborate with and influence credit teams (credit discussions, identifying solutions etc.).
The role is remote in nature and any applicant would need to be comfortable operating independently, but with the ability to draw on the considerable support of colleagues when required.
