Lead a specialist autism provision where exceptional teaching transforms lives. Lime Tree Education Search is supporting a highly regarded, inclusive primary school in North London to recruit an experienced SEND Class Teacher to lead a well-established specialist provision for children with complex Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). This is an exciting opportunity to join a school where inclusion is embedded throughout the school community. The successful candidate will lead a small specialist class of children working broadly between Years 1 and 5, delivering highly personalised, sensory-rich learning programmes whilst leading, developing and inspiring a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants to deliver consistently outstanding provision.

The Role

  • Lead a specialist autism provision for children with complex ASC and severe learning difficulties.
  • Deliver engaging, highly personalised and sensory-rich learning linked to EHCP outcomes.
  • Lead, coach and develop a team of 5 Teaching Assistants, ensuring consistently high standards of practice across the provision.
  • Model outstanding classroom practice and create a culture of high expectations.
  • Work collaboratively with therapists, families and external professionals.
  • Provide confident day-to-day leadership, modelling best practice and supporting colleagues to deliver consistently exceptional outcomes for pupils.
  • Monitor progress, contribute to EHCP reviews and celebrate every step of each child's development.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Demonstrable experience teaching children with complex Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) within a specialist setting, ideally across the primary age range (Years 1–5).
  • Proven experience leading, managing and developing a team of Teaching Assistants within a specialist classroom environment.
  • Experience planning and delivering highly personalised learning programmes linked to EHCP outcomes.
  • Excellent behaviour management skills and the ability to create calm, structured learning environments.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families, colleagues and external professionals.
  • Experience of approaches such as TEACCH, SCERTS, Attention Autism, PECS, Makaton, Intensive Interaction, AAC, Engagement Model or Pre-Key Stage Standards would be highly advantageous.
