A unique opportunity to teach within a specialist therapeutic education setting. LTE Search is working with an outstanding specialist school in South London to appoint an Unqualified Teacher to its primary team.

The school provides therapeutic education for pupils with complex SEMH and SEND needs, many of whom have experienced trauma and significant adversity. Small classes, a relationship-led approach and close collaboration between teaching and therapeutic staff create a highly supportive environment in which pupils can make meaningful academic and personal progress.

The Role

The successful candidate will join the primary team, and be working with pupils aged 5–12 across the provision. Duties will include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging lessons
  • Establishing a calm, structured and positive learning environment
  • Assessing and tracking pupil progress
  • Supporting pupils' academic, social and emotional development
  • Working collaboratively with teaching and therapeutic colleagues
  • Contributing to the wider life of the school

There is a collaborative approach to teaching, including team teaching with younger pupils, alongside specialist teaching in subjects including PE, science, computing, art, design technology and cooking. Therapists work alongside teaching staff within the school, with ongoing professional development and training in therapeutic approaches.

About You

A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any subject and relevant teaching or classroom experience are essential. The school is open to applications from experienced practitioners from a range of backgrounds, including:

  • Primary or SEN teachers who do not currently hold QTS
  • Experienced HLTAs or Instructors
  • SEN and specialist education practitioners
  • Graduates with relevant classroom experience

Experience of SEND, SEMH or specialist education would be particularly relevant, although strong experience within mainstream education will also be considered. The key requirements are strong classroom practice, the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and the experience and maturity to take responsibility for teaching and learning.

Development

The role provides the opportunity to work alongside experienced teachers and therapeutic professionals, with access to ongoing professional development. For candidates who meet the requirements, there is also the opportunity to work towards Qualified Teacher Status through the Assessment Only route.

If you have a degree, relevant teaching or classroom experience and are looking for a teaching role within a genuinely specialist environment, we'd like to hear from you.
