- What This Role Is All About
We’re looking for fast‑learning talent who will help us grow their role and take advantage of the many growth opportunities that exist, helping us shape their own and the company’s future.
The IT tester will be the quality guardian, ensuring that the delivery of IT services matches the functional, performance and security requirements that our world‑class clients demand.
Responsibilities
- Create test plans to ensure delivered IT services are of sufficient quality by covering:
- Functional requirements (does it meet the required business function)
- Performance requirements (is it fast enough and caters for the required volumes of transactions and concurrent users)
- UI standards (does it break any of the HCI rules)
- Security requirements (is data stored and transmitted securely? Is it bullet‑proof against attacks such as SQL injection? Will it pass pen‑test?)
- Operational requirements (what monitoring is in place to ensure it is running successfully)
- Reporting requirements (what information should it pass through into the central reporting database)
- Act as gatekeeper of developer submissions by reviewing developer unit test plans and rejecting changes if test plans are missing, inadequate or lack sufficient proof of tests passing.
- Review user documentation accompanying changes to ensure it is fit for purpose for the intended audience.
- Create and maintain automated test scripts to run regression tests and assist in volume testing.
Qualifications
- Empathy for client needs – usability and performance requirements.
- Strong knowledge of evidence‑based testing disciplines – unit, smoke/system, volume, sanity/regression.
- Ideally some knowledge of security testing – penetration tests, automated code reviews.
- Knowledge of basic UI rules.
- Experience with testing automation software packages (CB1.1).
- Pragmatism – knowing how to prioritise tests and when to allow code to proceed to production.
- Ability to write test plans to verify solutions deliver to requirements in a robust manner.
- Ability to work to deadlines, escalating blockers and reporting on progress.
- Proven ability to work on multiple projects at a time while paying strict attention to detail.
- Ability to work with developers to constructively improve output.
- Empathy for users when reviewing user‑guides intended for internal and external audiences.
- Rigorous attention to detail and the ability to understand priorities.
- Self‑motivated, eager to learn new skills and understand work prioritisation.
- Fastidious devotion to quality, teamwork, excellent time and project management skills, and a drive to improve inefficient processes.
- Experience with automated testing in Python would be advantageous.
- Location
Bristol, UK – Onsite (Bristol office located less than two miles from the centre of the city)
