About Us
Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. By accelerating electrons to near light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays which are used for academic and industry research and development across a range of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, earth and environmental sciences.
At Diamond we are currently undertaking a major upgrade of the facility, known as Diamond-II. Diamond-II will combine a new machine and new beamlines with a comprehensive series of upgrades to optics, detectors, sample environments, sample delivery capabilities and computing, which will ultimately generate an even more brilliant light source at a higher energy.
About the Role
We now have an opportunity for a Senior Electrical Technician to assist the Senior ElectricalProjectEngineer in carrying out projectupgrades and operations activities related to the accelerator systems of the Diamond facility.
The main duties will include:
- Line management of technicians.
- Testing and maintenance of control and instrumentation systems for Injection, RF, diagnostics and vacuum systems.
- Safety inspections on electrical systems.
- Management of design, manufacture installation and testing of new front ends, insertion devices and upgrades to existing systems.
- Analysis of failure records,planning of repairs/upgrades during shutdown periods.
- Procuring materials and equipment for workshop activities.
- Supervision of Apprentices.
About You
As a Senior Electrical Technician, you will have completed a recognised Apprenticeship in an Engineering discipline, have a HNC (or equivalent) qualification or demonstrate significant equivalent experience.
You will also have a BS7671 Wiring Regulations Qualification or equivalent knowledge.
You will also have experience in:
- HV & LV Electrical systems.
- Using Safe Systems of work, permits, risk assessments, etc.
- Electrical cabling to 18thEdition Wiring Regs.
- Supervising staff.
