This role is instrumental in delivering the regional power market strategy for Europe, a key focus for our ambitious growth plan. The main focus is to develop and implement offtake strategies for projects in the development pipeline by securing Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) offtake agreements, or delivering other innovative structured transactions.
Responsibilities include:
- Marketing, origination, and negotiation of power transactions with utilities, corporates, data centre developers, and facilitating new deal types such as hybrid solar–wind–BESS offtakes, private wire, and behind‑the‑meter co‑development partnerships.
- Identifying and developing market opportunities with major energy users for renewable energy system (RES) and BESS offtake across the EMEA region, anticipating market trends to support the development pipeline.
- Working with suppliers and other market participants to develop innovative routes to market, products and structures that secure bankable revenue to support solar development.
- Collaborating with legal, structured finance and other internal stakeholders to negotiate heads of terms and PPA/tolling contracts.
- Liaising with structured finance, development and commercial managers to create power marketing solutions that optimise funding opportunities and enable pipeline development.
- Understanding developments in the European markets and energy policy and assessing their impact on power marketing to keep Lightsource bp at the forefront of the market.
Knowledge
- Comprehensive knowledge of the European power markets, ideally experience at the utility scale for renewables.
- Multiyear experience negotiating long‑term PPAs in relevant markets.
- Successful track record of originating and executing complex energy projects and/or transactions in dynamic environments, creating value across diverse business models.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience presenting at many levels, including internal and external stakeholders and speaking at events.
Experience
- Deep experience in one or more relevant power markets.
- Origination, structuring and negotiation of long‑term power transactions (including but not limited to PPAs).
- Participation in renewable energy auctions.
- Power trading and risk management.
- Highly motivated individual who can flourish in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
- Strong communication and presentation skills. Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal in English and either Spanish, Portuguese or Italian.
- Commercially driven, capable of leading complex negotiations.
- Integrity, credibility and professionalism.
- Willing and able to travel across Europe as required.
