What You’ll do (the role)
As the Geospatial Platform Lead, you will be responsible for leading the development of innovative technical solutions and coordinating the administration of the geospatial enterprise environment. Your role will involve delivering tailored solutions encompassing business workflows, enterprise system administration, integration, data management, geospatial analysis, mapping, data visualization, and mobile geospatial applications. Collaboration is key in this role—you will work closely alongside regional geospatial leads to ensure the delivery of scalable solutions. You will also work with IT teams to ensure the technical integrity and enhancement of the underlying system is maintained.
Role and Responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Management: Lead and manage a team of GIS professionals. Provide guidance and support to team members, ensuring high performance and professional development. Foster a collaborative working environment, encouraging innovation and knowledge sharing. Oversee geospatial projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business objectives. Manage resources, and timelines for GIS-related projects.
- Geospatial Technology and Solutions: Design, develop, and maintain advanced geospatial applications and tools to support business needs across various platforms, including enterprise GIS, desktop, and mobile environments. Support the implementation of scalable geospatial workflows using Python and libraries including ESRI ArcPy. Identify opportunities for automation and design solutions to improve efficiency and integrity. Develop integration between the geospatial platform and other enterprise systems. Maintain and optimize the geospatial environment, including cloud-based infrastructure, to ensure high availability, performance, and security. Define and maintain standards and documentation for development processes, code, and workflows to ensure maintainability and knowledge sharing across the geospatial teams. Promptly and effectively troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to the geospatial systems, workflows, and applications. Stay current with emerging geospatial technologies and industry trends to continuously improve the organisation’s GIS capabilities.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Support: Collaborate with regional geospatial leads and with internal departments (e.g., development, engineering, planning, environmental operations, IT) to understand geospatial requirements and deliver solutions that meet the regional and global business needs. Serve as a primary point of contact for geospatial technical queries. Drive the integration of GIS technologies and spatial data into key operations and decision-making processes. Provide technical leadership and mentoring to others, fostering best practices in coding, version control, and project workflows.
Who we’re looking for
Experience: At least 7 years of experience in geospatial technologies, with a significant portion of that time in the renewable energy sector or related industries (energy, infrastructure, environmental management). Extensive experience in the design and delivery of geospatial solutions in an enterprise environment to support business needs. Extensive experience in GIS, remote sensing, geospatial analysis. Extensive experience in geospatial data management and implementing related standards and governance. Experience in integration of geospatial platforms with other enterprise systems. Experience working with cloud-based solutions is an advantage. Experience in coordinating and leading technical activities and managing others.
Skills & Competencies: Expertise in the use of ArcGIS Pro, ArcSDE, Portal for ArcGIS, FME, ArcPy and Python. Expertise in the development of solutions in an ArcGIS Enterprise environment. Excellent project management, organisational, and leadership skills. Knowledge of processes related to the development of renewable energy projects, and the role of geospatial in the project lifecycle.
Education and Qualifications: Master’s or advanced degree in Geospatial Science, Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
