Alfanar Energy UK is developing the >£2 billion Lighthouse Green Fuels second-generation Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) project in Teesside. The facility is currently the most advanced in the UK and will be one of the largest of its kind globally once operational. With engineering design nearing completion and government SAF legislation advancing, it’s an exciting time to join us as our project gathers pace.

We’re currently seeking an experienced individual to join us on a staff basis in London as a Senior Contracts Engineer. This is a key role which will work directly with the Contracts Manager to manage pre and post‑award contracts for the Lighthouse Green fuels project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage tender strategies for major engineering, EPC and PMC packages.
  • Prepare and issue RFPs/RFQs, manage clarifications, evaluate bids, and support technical and commercial bid assessments.
  • Lead contractual and commercial negotiations with prospective contractors and service providers.
  • Draft and present contracting and award recommendations for senior management approval.
  • Draft, review, and finalize contract documents ensuring alignment with project and legal requirements.
  • Coordinate contracting activities with legal, engineering, project controls, and supply chain teams to ensure contract compliance and risk mitigation.
Post‑Award Contract Administration
  • Administer awarded contracts in accordance with their terms and conditions.
  • Manage contract change orders, variations, claims, and extensions of time.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure adherence to milestones, deliverables, and quality standards.
  • Resolve contractual disputes in collaboration with legal and project management teams.
  • Maintain contract records, correspondence logs, and ensure timely approvals and payments.
Commercial Support
  • Support budget control, cost monitoring, and forecasting related to contract packages.
  • Provide input for project reports, risk registers, and audit reviews.
  • Mentor junior contract engineers and provide knowledge sharing across teams.
Who We’re Seeking
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying (QS) or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 15 years of experience in contracts and procurement, with a strong focus on major EPC and PMC contracts in capital‑intensive projects.
  • Proven track record in managing the full contract lifecycle — from tendering through to close‑out.
  • Sound understanding of various contracting models (lump sum, reimbursable, unit rate, etc.) and industry‑standard forms.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in contract management systems and MS Office Suite.
  • Professional certifications such as MRICS, CIPS, or similar are an advantage.
  • Experience with UK projects is desirable.
