Alfanar Energy UK is developing the >£2 billion Lighthouse Green Fuels second-generation Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) project in Teesside. The facility is currently the most advanced in the UK and will be one of the largest of its kind globally once operational. With engineering design nearing completion and government SAF legislation advancing, it’s an exciting time to join us as our project gathers pace.
This is an opportunity to play a key technical role on a major energy-transition project, working closely with FEED, EPC and PMC contractors, technology licensors, equipment vendors and internal engineering teams. You will act as the subject-matter expert for assigned gasification process units and be accountable for the quality and timely delivery of process engineering activities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing FEED and detailed engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with project specifications
- Providing technical leadership and specialist knowledge across gasification process units
- Supporting HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, layout and model reviews
- Developing technical scopes of work, calculations, reports and process simulations
- Coordinating technical interfaces with licensors, contractors and equipment vendors
- Supporting permitting and planning activities through the provision of technical information
- Contributing to commissioning, start-up, performance testing and operational readiness
- Supporting process optimisation, troubleshooting and continuous improvement
- Mentoring and providing guidance to junior process engineers
About you
You will have:
- At least 12+ years’ industrial process engineering experience - ideally within gasification, biofuels, refining, petrochemicals or chemical processing.
- Significant experience in an owner/operator environment is essential
- Strong experience of complex EPC projects and/or plant commissioning, start-up and operations
- Practical knowledge of gasification technologies, process equipment and major technology providers
- Experience using process simulation software such as Aspen Plus or HYSYS
- Strong process safety, troubleshooting and technical problem-solving capabilities
- Experience working with multidisciplinary, international project teams
- Previous experience leading or mentoring process engineers
- Chartered Engineer status would be advantageous.
