Reporting to the Director of Live Service, you will be responsible for designing and balancing the in-game economy to ensure long-term engagement, progression, and player satisfaction. You’ll craft systems that reward play, respect players’ time, and keep the game world feeling alive and rewarding. Working closely across disciplines, you’ll turn design goals into scalable systems and measurable results.
Key Duties Include
- Design, model, and tune in-game economies including currencies, sources/sinks, pacing, and reward distribution.
- Define and maintain progression systems, live events, and reward structures that drive engagement and sustain healthy player progression.
- Establish economic models and set parameters to maintain balance and prevent inflation/deflation across the player base.
- Partner with Analytics to monitor key metrics, set alerts for economic anomalies, and implement corrective adjustments when necessary.
- Define pricing frameworks and value propositions for in-game content, offers, and bundles (including regional considerations).
- Translate high-level design goals into clear economy specs, data tables, and configuration templates with acceptance criteria and rollback plans.
- Collaborate with design, engineering, UI/UX, and analytics teams to develop, test, and deploy live economy updates safely and efficiently.
- Specify telemetry requirements for tracking key performance indicators such as retention, progression pacing, and player engagement.
Qualifications
- Significant experience designing or tuning in-game economies, progression systems, or meta layers, with at least one shipped title or live update supported post-launch.
- Strong craft in systems and economy design: currencies, pacing, reward loops, and player motivation.
- Proven ability to identify and correct economic imbalances (inflation, reward loops, drop rate tuning).
- Experience delivering scalable meta systems such as seasonal progression, collection loops, or reward ladders.
- A modular, data-driven mindset – you build reusable systems, templates, and tools that scale safely with content.
- Comfortable working hands-on with editor tools and data models to iterate quickly and effectively.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills with the ability to clearly define systems and their intended outcomes.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including proficiency with Excel/Sheets (pivots, lookups, modelling).
- A strong sense of player empathy and value perception across different audiences and regions.
Desirable
- Background in behavioural economics, or formal training in micro/macro-economics.
- Experience working with first-party platforms, regional pricing, and entitlement systems.
- Familiarity with live service pipelines, telemetry systems, and rollback planning.
- Exposure to content pipelines and localisation workflows.
- Basic SQL or Python knowledge for data analysis and validation.
