Lighthouse Games is a new AAA studio in Leamington Spa, characterised by our exceptional talent and ambitious goals to create a revolutionary gaming experience. As a member of Lighthouse, you will embark on a creative journey, producing some of the best work of your career in an inclusive and collaborative atmosphere where ideas are encouraged and innovation thrives.

As the Principal Material Artist, you will be at the forefront of material design and implementation for our AAA Open World Driving Game. Your extensive experience will guide the art team in crafting visually stunning materials that enhance the game world's realism and immerse players in our vibrant universe. You'll set the vision and standards of material artistry, ensuring that all assets adhere to the highest AAA quality.

Key Duties Include:

  • Support the material design process, fostering a high standard of artistic excellence in line with project goals.
  • Collaborating with the Art Director and other discipline leads to develop and innovate material workflows that maximise visual impact.
  • Mentoring and guiding less experienced artists to support a cohesive and highly skilled materials team.
  • Establishing best practices for material creation, documentation of workflows, and the development of new tools and techniques.
  • Working with Technical Artists and Render Engineers to optimise shader content and ensure performance targets are met.
  • Driving research and implementation of advanced material techniques, technologies, and industry standards.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in creating realistic, high-quality PBR materials or textures in high-profile video games.
  • Deep understanding of real-time rendering, workflows, and industry standards.
  • Expertise in node-based material authoring tools such as Substance Suite.
  • Proficiency in 3D software and rendering tools such as 3ds Max, Maya, or Blender.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a focus on team development.
  • Exceptional organisational abilities and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • A highly creative mindset with a passion for problem-solving and pushing artistic boundaries.

Desirable:

  • Experience with cutting-edge material techniques such as photogrammetry and procedural generation.
  • Unreal Engine experience.
