School: Lift Winton, London Road, Andover, Hampshire, SP10 2PS

Contract type: Permanent, full time

Start date: September 2026

An exciting opportunity to lead and shape a phenomenal music department.

Your new school: Lift Winton is a popular secondary school with a great reputation within the local community. The school boasts fantastic facilities, which includes a MUGA, a recently refurbished library and gymnasium, new music suite, dance studios, animal management area and expansive grounds.

Due to the ongoing success of our existing CPA faculty we are looking to build our team. Whether you are a talented Music Teacher who is aspiring to middle management, or an experienced, existing Head of Music, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the continued development of the thriving musical and creative life of Lift Winton. We are well known for music and the performing arts as a school, and are proud to be one of the lead schools for Hampshire music Hub which is an exciting opportunity to be part of as a music lead.

Working closely with the Head of Performing Arts, you will take responsibility for the academic provision and outcomes of pupils in the school at all key stages 3/4 and oversee a vibrant and challenging curriculum, building on a strong foundation of examination outcomes in the first years of offering GCSE music. We currently have two GCSE Music classes and one Music Technology class in both years 10 and 11 and music is a popular subject amongst students.

The school maintained a 'Good' grade in the latest visit by Ofsted in 2023.

We pride ourselves on a culture of high support and high expectations, and we have excellent relationships with families and the community who work closely with us to ensure every child receives an excellent education.

Your new role: The Music Department has two fantastic fully equipped IMac teaching rooms, two band rooms, a newly fitted recording studio and live room. We also have a theatre, radio room and brand new performance hall with tiered seating (perfect for concerts). You will be part of a Music department that celebrates the musical ability of all pupils and provides opportunities for all to experience a range of instruments.

This includes our Orchestral instrument scheme where all year 7's have the chance to opt to learn an orchestral instrument for free for a term. Our teaching team will consist of two other teachers who are part of the senior leadership team and a team of nine Peripatetic teachers so you will be well supported in the role. We have regular opportunities to perform large-scale productions and have regular performances in school as well as being involved in national events such as Voice in a Million at the Ovo Stadium Wembley. The school does two productions a year; the most recent productions being 'Les Miserables: school edition', 'Seussical the Musical' and 'Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat'. We also host a community orchestra for all young people in Andover which we would love you to oversee.

What you'll need to succeed: We are looking for an aspiring future leader who wants to learn and be involved in leading and supporting the whole faculty. You'll have a passion for performing arts and hold a good honours degree, or equivalent, in Music. You will have high expectations, and the ability to inspire, excite and motivate pupils and experience of teaching Music Technology to KS4 level. Whilst also being able to develop a good rapport with pupils, engage them in their learning, and ensure that high standards are maintained. It would be desirable if you have good piano skills, so if you do please put this in your application.

Who is Lift Schools? We're a diverse and inclusive network of schools with one clear mission; to provide an excellent education to every child - in every classroom, every day. And we do this across each of our 58 schools. As with our pupils, we want our team to be empowered to do their best work, supported by the best leadership they've ever had.

We offer you:

  • Comprehensive training: Access to some of the best developmental training to boost your career.
  • Generous benefits: From your pension plan to healthcare and financial support, we've got you covered.
  • Lifestyle perks: Enjoy discounted gym memberships, travel deals, and even electric vehicle incentives.

Please don't wait until the closing date to apply as we will review applications and interview as we receive them. If you would like a confidential discussion before applying and/or a tour of the school please contact us. We reserve the right to close this vacancy early should we receive an overwhelming response.
