Are you an experienced educator, passionate about supporting people with learning disabilities to achieve great outcomes? We are looking for a Special Needs Tutor / Teacher with general FE experience to join our small College in Dartington.

In this role, you'll deliver a curriculum that helps students with special educational needs achieve positive outcomes. You will provide effective lesson planning, manage resources within a budget and work with your fellow Tutors and team of Learning Support Assistants to create high-quality learning environments. You'll also work closely with our Employment Team to coordinate and support work placements and supported internships, which provide vital guidance to students as they transition into adulthood and meaningful employment.

Due to our students' needs, you will also be a personal tutor on a 1:1 basis. You'll be running tutorials as part of the study programme, so you'll need to be able to adapt your teaching style to ensure that all students receive an individualised experience with us. We also run a Day Service provision alongside the College, so you may be required to provide and lead sessions for our service users to enjoy.

Who we are:

Since 1996, we've been empowering people with learning disabilities in Devon to achieve their dreams and build fulfilling lives. Our core values of kindness, respect, and positivity guide everything we do. Lifeworks College is a small FE provision based in Dartington (near Totnes). We have a small group of students, and our staff are focused on delivering personalised and tailored education to 16-24-year-olds with learning disabilities.

What you'll do:

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons, working with a small team of Learning Support Assistants in further education subjects such as English, Maths, and IT, ensuring high standards of achievement.
  • Act as a personal tutor where necessary, providing 1:1 support and guidance to students who require more individualised learning.
  • Embrace and integrate new technologies into your teaching, while supporting Learning Support Assistants to do the same.
  • Continuously monitor, assess, and report on student progress, welfare, and attendance, as well as complete any other administrative procedures as required.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, training, extra-curricular activities, parents evenings, and off-site activities.
  • Work closely with the Employment Team to support students into work placements and supported internships, in order to encourage independence and growth.
  • Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and health and safety at all times.

Working hours:

As a Special Needs Tutor / Teacher, you will work 37.5 hours per week over 5 days, 52 weeks per year. You will receive 50 days' (10 weeks) leave per annum. Please note that there will be a requirement to take part in activities outside of your regular working hours, such as residential trips, DofE, discos or parents evenings.

What we're looking for:

  • A degree in Education or a PGCE qualification.
  • Extensive experience as a SEN Tutor in a further education/similar setting, as well as proven competence in all areas of this role (i.e., planning and delivering lessons, creating a positive learning environment, monitoring and reporting on students, etc.).
  • Significant experience working with people with learning disabilities.
  • A team player, liaising and collaborating with the College Management Team, the Employment Team, Administrators, and Learning Support Assistants to ensure students receive the best outcomes.
  • Proficiency in using and integrating technology into lessons.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory requirements, including Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, and Health & Safety.

If you are a passionate, driven, and collaborative Tutor, we encourage you to apply and help us make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students. We are ideally looking for someone to start as soon as possible, however, we are still very interested in hearing from you if you have a longer notice period.

Benefits:

  • 50 days annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays).
  • A fully funded DBS check and update service to ensure a smooth onboarding process.
  • Access to valuable resources, including an employee assistance programme to support your mental and emotional health.
