This role will involve travel and occasional overnight stays for training, team meetings, or service support.

Purpose of the Role: The Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner will carry a clinical caseload and work in partnership with operational staff to develop innovative and person centred approaches that will enable these same individuals to have fulfilled and active lives, thereby reducing the probability of challenging behaviour. The nature of the work will predominantly focus on behavioural support, but when required will involve providing coaching around Autism Spectrum Condition, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDDs) and Mental Health diagnoses.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Take professional responsibility for a specialist caseload and provide expert advice and recommendations to staff working within Lifeways Group services regarding behavioural and other specialist support, linking with the relevant Lead Specialist.
  • Reduce unnecessary restrictive practices of any type.
  • Provide holistic assessment (incorporating functional assessment) of the nature and context in which behaviours of concern occur.
  • Produce formulations, guidelines and interventions.
  • Support Managers to implement, monitor and evaluate behaviour support plans.
  • When & where required, offer support to the Specialist Trainers in delivering training and workshops to staff teams regarding Positive Behavioural Support, Mental Health, Autism Spectrum Condition etc.
  • Provide effective support, thorough debriefs, to people we support and staff following incidents.
  • Take responsibility for prioritizing and time management of a varied work and case load.
  • Work flexible hours as required by the organisation.
  • Be able to travel nationally to deliver additional support to team members and provide individual consultation (this will occasionally require overnight stays).
  • Role model positive behavioural support and Practice Leadership to support staff.
  • Promote safe, ethical and respectful risk and physical management practices for staff and comply with relevant policies and requirements, including recording and reporting.
  • Work in partnership with Lifeways’ operational teams and contribute to their development through coaching.
  • Participate in new business initiatives and the development of new services.
  • Take on other clinical, developmental and administrative work as requested by the Lead Specialist.
  • Develop own knowledge and practice relative to continuous service growth and improvement.

Experience Requirements/Technical/Professional Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years’ experience of working with individuals with an Intellectual or Developmental Disability (IDD) and/or those who may display behaviours that can challenge. (Essential)
  • Holds PBS qualifications level 4/5 or master - or PBS Practitioner experience.
  • Experience of both supported living and residential settings.
  • Experience of delivering staff training/coaching and able to demonstrate a strong knowledge of theoretical concepts, approaches and strategies of positive behaviour support and least restrictive practices.
  • Understanding of physical intervention models held within Lifeways Group e.g. Proact-Scipr-UK or NAPPI UK.
  • Full driving license and access to own vehicle.
  • Capacity to work unsupervised and co-operatively with others.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and deal with situations in a sensitive manner.

Why join Lifeways? Because we care deeply about the people we support and the people who support them. You’ll be joining a committed team that’s shaping the future of social care. In return, we offer:
