Lifeways are searching for a team of exceptional support workers to join us at an exciting new opportunity in South Tyneside. We are keen to hear from people who would be interested in joining our team on either a Full Time or Part Time contract, working with adults with complex and enhanced support needs in a purpose-built service in Jarrow.

It will at times be a challenging environment; therefore, resilience and patience will be important too.

In order to support the team, we have a strong leadership team dedicated to this service, some of whom are based on site, along with the support of key external colleagues across the Multi-Disciplinary Team.

About the Service:

The service in Jarrow provides support to eight adults both male and female who live with a mix of learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and emotional and mental health conditions, and who all require positive behaviour support. Each person will have their own self-contained purpose-built bungalow. There is also separate on-site staff facilities. You will join the team helping the eight individuals to transition into their new homes and on their journey to living as independently as possible.

Due to the needs of the individuals, each person will be supported at minimum on a 1-1 basis through the day and in some cases additional 2-1, along with access to a shared waking night and sleep over staff at night. For this reason, a degree of flexibility and being able to work as part of a rolling rota with the wider team is essential in order to ensure that the needs of the people we support are met consistently and without disruption.

To be considered for this role we would ask for a minimum 6-month experience working in a similar role. To reflect this experience and complexity of the service, we are paying support workers an exceptionally competitive enhanced rate.

  • Strictly adhere to professional boundaries
  • Helping the individuals we support to achieve their goals, this may include supporting them in a variety of activities such as going to a place of work, household jobs, favourite hobbies such as cinema or concerts, or places of worship.
  • You will be required to complete record charts, administer medication and handle finances so good Maths and English skills are essential.
  • Lifeways have invested in electronic systems, such as online rota management and e support planning, these are designed to make your day to day working life easier, therefore you will be required to use handheld devices and IT systems as part of your role, but you will receive full training so no prior experience is essential.
  • Good observation skills, with the ability to accurately record incidents transparently, factually and in a timely manner.
