We deliver peace of mind and enhance everyday family life with seamless coordination for all the moments that matter, big and small.
About the Team
The Foundry team builds Life360’s partner ecosystem and developer platform – the infrastructure that allows external partners to integrate with Life360 securely and at scale. We own the full integration stack: partner‑facing APIs, authentication flows, webhook receipt and delivery, and the gateway layer that decouples partner contracts from internal systems. Our goal is to turn Life360 from a single‑product app into an extensible platform that partners across mobility, safety, wearables and more can build on. We also own critical shared infrastructure that the rest of the company depends on – NetworkKit, authentication, and environment standardization across all mobile clients. We’re a cross‑platform team spanning Cloud, Android, and iOS, and we think in systems: stable API contracts, sandboxed environments, versioning policies, and operational SLAs. The developer platform we’re building is modeled on the best of Stripe, Twilio, and Squarespace – designed so that onboarding a new partner takes weeks, not months.
About the Job
Life360 is hiring an AI‑Native Backend Focused Engineer – a senior engineer who thinks natively in AI. You’ll be central to how the Foundry team builds its products, develops its ecosystem tooling, and how we use AI for development in the future. You’ll design and build features and systems to help grow Life360’s partner ecosystem, taking our platform from zero to one. You’ll build and evolve modern AI‑Native engineering workflows and shape the standards others follow.
US‑based salary range: $129,000 to $192,000 USD. Canada: $149,500 to $177,500 CAD. The compensation package includes a wide range of medical, dental, vision, financial, and other benefits, as well as equity.
What You’ll Do
- Design and build high‑quality features integrating third‑party data and systems.
- Work with AI (Claude Code) as a first‑class collaborator – orchestrate agents to create specs, generate code and tests, verify results, and perform reviews.
- Help define and codify AI‑Native engineering practices for the Foundry team, establishing playbooks for the broader org.
- Build across the full stack, delivering polished, performant, and reliable experiences to tens of millions of users.
- Collaborate closely with product managers and designers to turn complex user problems into elegant, scalable engineering solutions.
- Contribute to architectural decisions, code reviews, and a culture of craft and continuous improvement.
- Participate in on‑call rotation and incident response.
- Use agentic workflows to dramatically increase delivery without sacrificing quality.
- Mentor team members and contribute to team processes, technical standards, and evolve the team’s AI‑native engineering practices.
- Support performance, reliability, and accessibility across the features you own.
What We’re Looking For
Technical Foundation- 6+ years of backend software engineering experience
- Strong proficiency with Java and Spring Boot (primary stack)
- Experience with Apache Kafka or similar distributed streaming platforms
- Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts: consistency, fault tolerance, replication, and data durability
- Comfortable with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and containerized deployments
- Heavy user of agentic workflows; understands research‑plan‑implement cycle but doesn’t outsource thinking to agents
- Growth mindset – structure problems precisely, learn quickly, take interest outside your lane, and try new things.
- Collaborative approach – communicate clearly, work well across teams, value diverse perspectives.
- Ownership mentality – take responsibility from design through production and beyond.
- AI‑native working style – use AI tooling (Claude Code or equivalent) as a genuine development partner.
- Thoughtful communication – explain technical tradeoffs and articulate ideas effectively.
We value culture fit and problem‑solving ability over checking every technical box. We help you grow into areas where you have less experience.
Nice‑to‑Have
- Background in stream processing frameworks (Kafka Streams, Flink)
- Experience with schema registries and schema evolution strategies
- Knowledge of Confluent Platform or Confluent Cloud
- Understanding of CI/CD patterns, GitHub Actions, and artifact management (Maven, Nexus)
- Experience with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog)
- Previous work on ecosystems or integration tooling
Benefits
- Competitive pay and benefits
- Medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance plans (US and Canada)
- 401(k) plan with company matching (US) / RRSP with DPSP matching (Canada)
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for mental well‑being
- Flexible PTO, plus several company‑wide days off throughout the year
- Winter and Summer week‑long synchronized company shutdowns
- Equipment, tools, and reimbursement support for a productive remote environment
