The Company

Life Racing has extensive experience in the design, manufacture, development, and support of a broad range of products including engine control units (ECUs), power distribution units (PDUs), display units, integrated paddle shift systems and high reliability wiring harnesses to all levels of motorsport ranging from WRC, Rally Raid, GT, Indy, to 24hr Le Mans. Life Racing also provides production electronics for EURO6 low volume series and Hypercars. Life Racing offers a range of services to support clients including on-site and remote support, complete wiring harness solutions, and custom electronic design. Extensive control systems experience provides the ability to advise on development from a control strategy perspective leading to better performance in shorter timescales. Life Racing is based on the Essex/London border and presents a small, yet exceptionally talented team driven to reach exceptional standards.

The Opportunity

Life Racing is seeking an experienced Motorsport and Production Calibration Engineer to deliver high-level calibration support to customers across motorsport and related industries. This is a dual-focused role combining hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities across people, projects, and product development. You will work directly with customers both remotely and on-site—solving complex integration challenges such as commissioning gearbox electronics, developing calibrations, and ensuring optimal system performance. Alongside this, you will play a key role in managing projects, supporting product design, and contributing to the commercial and operational flow of engineering activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert remote and on-site calibration support to customers both in the UK and around the World.
  • Commission and troubleshoot systems, including tasks such as enabling gearbox electronics functionality on customer vehicles.
  • Develop and deliver bespoke calibrations tailored to customer requirements.
  • Support customers via phone, email, and live troubleshooting sessions.
  • Define system architectures and prepare wiring specifications for new vehicle builds.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex vehicle system issues under time-critical conditions.
  • Lead and support engineering projects from concept through to delivery.
  • Manage project timelines, deliverables, and customer expectations.
  • Coordinate internal resources and delegate tasks such as quotation generation.
  • Contribute to product lifecycle activities, including specification, design, and validation.
  • Support the flow of purchasing and integration of components into product builds.
  • Work closely with engineering and commercial teams to align product development with market needs.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers.
  • Support workload planning and task delegation across the team.
  • Act as a key technical interface between customers and internal departments.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of processes and tools.
  • Represent Life Racing at trade shows, customer events, and technical demonstrations.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Provide pre- and post-sales technical support.

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Responding to customer support calls and technical queries.
  • Creating and refining calibration files for customer applications.
  • Delegating and reviewing customer quotations.
  • Preparing wiring layouts and system definitions for new vehicle programs.
  • Coordinating ongoing project tasks and tracking progress.
  • Collaborating with internal teams on product and design updates.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor or master degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience in motorsport, automotive, or aviation engineering.
  • Strong background in calibration, control systems, and vehicle electronics.
  • Proven experience in customer-facing technical roles.
  • Solid understanding of data analysis, ECU systems, and vehicle integration.
  • Experience managing technical projects and delivering to deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable Background

Candidates are likely to have experience with or have worked at companies such as Bosch, Marelli, Cosworth, Motec, McLaren, F1 Teams, WEC or WRC Teams.

Hours of work & Benefits

40-hour, full-time week, working 8 hours a day Monday – Friday, flexible across the hours of 7.30am to 6.00pm with a 30-45 minute minimum lunch break. To meet the needs of the role and fast-paced nature of the business, the successful candidate will require a flexible approach to working hours. The role is based on site at the Life Racing unit in Burnt Mills Industrial Estate owing to the training requirements.
