We are currently looking to appoint an Independent Person to provide objective, independent and impartial advice in relation to any complaints made under the Code of Conduct.

The Role of the Independent Person is appointed in accordance with section 28(7) of the Localism Act 2011:

  • Their views will be consulted following any formal complaint against a member and during any formal investigation.
  • They may be consulted by a member of the Council against whom an allegation or complaint has been made.
  • Where complaints are referred to a Council Committee the Independent Person will be required to attend to provide advice.

The position cannot be held by anyone who has been an employee or a member of the council during the past 5 years. The Independent Person is entitled to an attendance allowance for any meetings they are required to attend.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with personal integrity and a commitment to maintaining high standards in public life. Evaluation and communication skills are important as is the ability to deal with potentially sensitive issues objectively and impartially.
