JOB PURPOSE
We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety professional to act as the Council’s Competent Person and provide specialist advice and support for our wide range of shared services across Staffordshire, including to neighbouring local authorities (Tamworth, Stafford and Cannock), Lichfield Garrick Theatre and LWMTS.
This role offers the chance to influence safety culture, work closely with senior leaders, and make a real difference in protecting staff, contractors, and the public.
Essential requirements:
- Educated to Degree level in a discipline relevant to the post or a clear demonstration that the equivalent in depth of understanding has been gained through experience within career to date.
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and CMIOSH membership.
- Proven experience leading health & safety in a complex, multi-site organisation.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Must be able to easily travel to the offices and sites of the Shared Service organisations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Shaping and implementing health & safety strategy, policy, and best practice.
- Ensuring compliance with legislation, regulations, and council standards.
- Managing risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety training.
- Advising on insurance matters and public safety.
- Overseeing contractor compliance and workplace audits.
