We are seeking a fundraising and grants officer to support one of the leading canal restoration projects in the UK. This is a key role to generate increased income to support our ongoing work.

We are a registered charity campaigning and working towards the restoration of the Lichfield Canal and the Hatherton Canal in Staffordshire for the benefit of the community. The natural wildlife corridor from Huddlesford to Hatherton will provide a valuable amenity for walkers, cyclists, boaters and visitors to use and will bring prosperity to the area. This project will also provide an opportunity for young people to learn about our history, our heritage and our environment. We have achieved a great deal, but need increasing funds to support our work, with the aim of completing the restoration in the next ten years.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience of a wide range of fundraising activities.
  • Experience in preparing multiple funding application forms and writing detailed and compelling proposals.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent diplomacy skills.

What will you be doing?

  • Research, identify and manage bid opportunities and donations from trusts, foundations, institutional funders, governments and statutory-making bodies, corporate and private donors.
  • Craft compelling and effective bids to secure successful results.
  • Attract, build and develop relationships with new and existing corporate donors to secure long term and increased funding.
  • Ensure bid deadlines are met, terms and conditions for grants are satisfied, grant income is collected efficiently when due.
  • Maintain and update database of fundraising contacts.
