Technical Service Chemist
Manchester (based onsite)
Permanent role
We\’re recruiting for a Technical Service Chemist to become the key technical point of contact for our commercial team and customers. This role will see you working as a chemist supporting clients directly, often in their laboratories.
The core duties will be around demonstration and customer education in the chemical products and their applications in diverse fields. On a broad basis our client uses colour chemistry to detect issues, these can be in areas like counterfeiting, non destructive testing for mechanical issues (such as using dyes to detect cracks in an engine, as opposed to dismantling it) and internal revenue protection for example additives for fuels.
This will involve using inhouse developed apparatus as well as more familiar chromatography techniques of HPLC and GCMS, as well as UV/Vis. The role will involve working with equations and mathematics specific to the transfer of technology to the customers so a strong background in mathematics is important.
In this role, you\’ll be the expert on the product range, providing customers with in-depth knowledge and support to help them to select, deploy, and use our clients products effectively. This could see you working onsite at a refinery, aerospace workshop or customers laboratory training them on the use of this chemistry.
The role then goes beyond onsite technical support; it\’s the vital link between the customers and the product development team. You\’ll gather feedback from the field to help guide the future product improvements, ensuring the company continues to meet and exceed their customers\’ needs.
What You\’ll Do:
- Be the go-to expert on our products, understanding their composition, performance, and capabilities. This will involve understanding their products well which are both chemical and electrical.
- Work alongside our commercial team to assist customers in selecting the right products. This will involve chemical demonstration and in the case of HPLC and GCMS call for method development skills and the ability to troubleshoot and optimise methods for a clients equipment that you may have developed in Manchester.
- Travel internationally to meet with customers, conduct on-site product demonstrations, and perform laboratory tests. This will be for periods of 2 days to 1 week, and involve being away every once every couple of months though this is subject to business needs.
- Provide clear, professional reports and recommendations to both our commercial team and customers. You will need to be both adept at mathematics to be able to work on dilutions, ratios, unit conversions and the various equations related to the role as well as having good general laboratory skills specifically around measurements of fluids. We are seeking A-level qualification in mathematics or equivalent level of knowledge.
- Deliver training to internal colleagues and customers on product use and troubleshooting.
- Offer post-sales support, ensuring customer success with the products will be key. This will ideally be boosted by your own knowledge of colour or dye chemistry. You will be in some cases adapting products to needs and taking customer goals on board and assisting them to a winning outcome.
- Actively gather customer feedback and insights, summarising this information to inform our product development strategy.
- Manage your own time effectively, working independently or as part of a team to solve problems and complete tasks. This role will involve working closely with several departments of the business and the ability to organise and communicate will be important.
- Embody our company values and contribute to a safe working culture.
Your background:
- We are seeking a chemistry graduate with good mathematical skills. You will be skilled in the core areas of HPLC, GCMS, UV/Vis and other analytical and laboratory skills.
- The role calls for a proactive and analytical problem-solver who enjoys getting to the root of a challenge. We are seeking someone comfortable breaking down complex issues and developing clear solutions.
- Analytical & Results-Oriented: You have a logical mindset, a strong focus on achieving key objectives, and a drive to gather the critical information needed to solve problems.
- Adaptable & Independent: You are comfortable working independently and can adjust your approach when faced with new information or changing situations. You are tenacious in overcoming obstacles.
- Influential & Customer-Focused: we are seeking someone to understanding the needs of others, whether they are a colleague or a customer, and to communicate in a way that builds trust and provides reassurance.
- Proactive: You take initiative, seize opportunities, and are always looking for ways to improve processes and outcomes.
If you\’re ready to bring your technical expertise and passion for customer success to a dynamic role, we encourage you to apply.
