The Matawan Aberdeen Public Library is seeking a part-time social worker tasked with providing access and services to help people of all ages solve and cope with challenges in their everyday lives.

The ideal candidate will work both independently and collaboratively with local organizations and library staff to create and implement plans to address the needs of existing patrons and potential patrons who face barriers to library service. The candidate should be an innovative self-starter, eager to develop programs and services aimed at improving the emotional and mental health of the community. Strong case management skills are essential.

Primary Responsibilities

Work with patrons to identify individual needs and issues and provide appropriate information, support, referrals, and advocacy. Work to build relationships with members of vulnerable populations respectfully and without judgement. Assist patrons in completing applications and understanding information from social service and health organizations. Provide follow up as necessary to ensure that patrons have achieved their personal goals.

Build and maintain relationships with community organizations that serve populations facing marginalization. Consult with borough/township and school social workers on a regular basis to better understand the particular needs of residents in our community.

Work collaboratively with MAPL staff to help them learn the skills necessary to work with marginalized populations and identify local resources. Collaborate/consult with staff on library programming to address the needs of special populations and overall community wellness.

Assist Library staff in its outreach efforts to serve the community outside the library building. Help identify patrons who face barriers to access at the Library and would benefit from outreach services.

Create and implement programs, such as training and informal presentations, designed to improve the overall well-being of the community. Communicate with the library’s programming staff and provide assistance when necessary.

Requirements

Provide friendly, high quality service to all patrons.

Maintain accurate records and respect confidentiality.

Maintain an effective working relationship with all staff and community organizations.

Work a flexible schedule with potential evening and weekend hours.

Use technology effectively in daily job duties.

Travel independently to attend meetings/events outside the library.

Follow research and trends in the field.

Analyze data to gain an understanding of the local community.

Qualifications

NJ Licensed MSW.

Experience in social work, public health, mental health, behavioral health, health information/education or related field required.

Fluency in a language other than English a plus.

Resident of New Jersey.

Schedule: 10-15 hours per week (schedule TBD)

Salary: $35.18/hour
