This job is for Leavers' Money Skills, part of the Didasko Education Company, a financial education charity registered in Scotland (SC040205). Didasko also runs the Library of Mistakes, a Practical History of Financial Markets course and Future Asset.

Location: Home/School based with travel across Central Belt

Salary: £32,000 FTE pro rata for 14 hours per week (£12,800). Term time

Reports to: Co-Founders Leavers Money Skills, Didasko Education

Leavers' Money Skills offers free, impartial financial education workshops to school leavers in schools across Edinburgh, the Lothians, and the Scottish Borders. The project is expanding into other areas.

Purpose of the role

The project offers in person workshops in financial education, primarily to senior phase students. We are expanding delivery and are looking for a part-time Financial Education Officer to teach the workshops which range in size from small groups to full year presentations.

General Activities

  • Contact schools to organise sessions for delivery of LMS’ financial education programme.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with schools and education partners to secure, schedule and deliver financial education workshops.
  • Notify colleagues as soon as possible if unable to deliver a scheduled session and support arrangements for alternative delivery where appropriate.
  • Deliver engaging financial education workshops and presentations to young people in schools, adapting delivery to different group sizes, learning needs and school requirements.
  • As required, take part in ongoing training and professional development with LMS. This will include preparation of presentation materials and attendance at presentations delivered by other FEOs as part of your training.
  • Collect, record and report participant and teacher feedback to support programme evaluation, quality improvement and impact measurement.
  • Contribute to the development, review and continuous improvement of educational resources and workshop materials.
  • Ensure consistency of delivery of educational content of FEOs presentations in order to meet the charitable objectives of LMS.
  • Maintain accurate records of workshop delivery, school engagement activities, attendance and evaluation data.
  • Comply with all safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, and data protection policies and procedures.
  • Act as an ambassador for Leavers' Money Skills and Didasko Education, promoting the programme to schools, educators and external partners.

Person Specification

  • Experience of delivering presentations, workshops or training to young people.
  • Experience of building relationships with schools, educators or community organisations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with insurance covering business use.
  • Competent IT skills including Microsoft Office and online presentation tools.
  • Knowledge of financial education, financial wellbeing or personal finance.
  • Experience working with secondary school pupils.
  • Experience supporting young people with additional support needs.

Qualifications

Relevant experience or qualification in teaching, youth work, education or financial services.

Key Terms and Working Arrangements

  • Hours: 0.4 FTE (e.g. 2 – 3 days per week during term time).
  • Contract: Fixed term to June 2027 with scope to renewal.
  • Location: Home based with travel for school visits and events (travel expenses covered per policy).
  • Right to work: Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
  • Safeguarding: Appointment subject to suitable references and PVG checks.
